We are seeking applicants for the role of Division Levels Program Teacher tojoin our team, under a full-time probationary contract. Success in this role will require aspecific set of knowledge skills and abilities to support complex learners at the Brooks Composite High School.

The Grasslands Levels Program is designed to meet the needs of students with intellectual or complex medical disabilities. The program emphasizes the development of skills required for the highest level of independent functioning, the student is capable of, to facilitate the transition to adult life. Functional and adaptive skills including independent living, life, social and employment skills are emphasized through a variety of activities within the school and the community. Having an innovative mindset to design and deliver plans that guide students to meet their fullest potential, and the ability to develop and implement assessment tools and techniques, based on modified expectations of the Alberta Education Programs of Studies, would be considered an asset for this role.

The Brooks Composite High School (BCHS) is a high school of over 700 students in grades 10-12. We offer a full range of all the academic offerings in addition to a well-respected vocational program that includes Mechanics, Construction, Cosmetology, Foods, and Digital Media. We also offer a fine arts program that includes visual arts and performing arts including Music and Drama. In addition, we are pleased to host the district Inclusive Education Program and have a large ELL program that serves the needs of many newcomers to Canada. We are also very proud of the athletic and extracurricular programs at our school. We run a number of teams and clubs that provide students a great number of opportunities to participate in the life of the school.

  • Moving Expense Reimbursement for Qualifying New Hires!

    New teachers who have accepted employment with the Division and must relocate from another town, city or province, will be reimbursed for their moving expenses up to the limits noted below. This applies to teachers on probationary contracts, and Interim and Temporary teaching contracts for five (5) or more consecutive months. Employees relocating from:

    • Red Deer and north of Red Deer - actual cost up to one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00).
    • South of Red Deer, excluding a 110 KM radius around the city of Brooks [Alberta] - actual cost up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).
    • Other provinces/countries - actual cost up to two thousand dollars ($2,000.00)
  • 100% of benefit premiums paid (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Extended Disability, Life, AD&D)

  • Health Spending Account (for contracts of at least 5 consecutive months)

  • Paid Sick Leave of 20 days for the first year and 90 days thereafter.

  • Family Medical Leave of 3 days per year.

  • Paid Personal leaves , combined 4 granted per year, 1 day at full pay and 3 days at loss of sub (contracts 5 months or more).

  • Grasslands Public Schools, in partnership with the City of Brooks Recreation Services, offerdiscounts on JBS Canada Centre memberships and passes, for Grasslands employees!

  • We regularly plan book studies, social events, guest presenters, and more!

  • We have implemented early dismissal, for students, on Fridays, to give more flexibility in schedules, for colleagues to meet, collaborate, and learn within working hour

Job Duties:.

  • provide a stimulating learning environment and delivery of course material so each student can experience growth and develop to their potential;
  • provide an educational environment based on the values of diversity, equality and inclusion;
  • identify students individual and collective learning needs for their age and grade;
  • based on approved curriculum, plan and deliver instruction that meets individual and collective student learning and special needs;
  • provide direct support and/or intervention as required to maximize student learning achievement and well-being;
  • ensure resources and supports are personalized and implemented precisely to maximize student achievement and well-being;
  • support school based staff to understand and respond to individual student strengths and needs for improved student achievement and well-being;
  • share information between all relevant partners for a coordinated and comprehensive approach to support student achievement and well-being;
  • organize and direct the work of teacher assistants and parent volunteers;
  • use various assessment tools, based on modified expectations of Alberta Education, to evaluate and communicate student progress;
  • meet with other professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress;
  • meet with parents or guardians regarding the student’s learning status;
  • volunteer to supervise extracurricular and after-school activities;
  • attend meetings, seminars and in-service training sessions; and
  • serve as role model for students.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Education

pre-service teacher preparation program from an approved institution

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certification
  • Considered an asset but not a requirement : Master’s degree in education or special education, experience, education, or training in working with students who have complex needs.
