Bytown Catering requires a Human Resources Manager to oversee all HR functions, from daily operations and employee support to strategic planning and policy development. This role is vital in fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.

Job Duties

1. HR Strategy, Policy, and Leadership: Develop and implement HR policies aligned with company goals; advise leadership on best practices, compliance, and employee matters; ensure HR activities comply with labor laws; maintain accurate employee records; contribute to HR projects and cross-functional collaboration.
2. Payroll & Benefits Administration: Manage payroll edits and timesheet accuracy; process weekly payroll including vacation pay and ROE requests; administer benefits and handle staff inquiries; manage employee gratuity distribution.
3. Recruitment & Onboarding: Post job openings, review applicants, coordinate interviews; prepare employment contracts; support onboarding and orientation of new employees.
4. Employee Relations & Support: Respond to employee requests, assist with performance management, promote open communication, and foster a positive workplace environment.
5. Staffing & Scheduling Support: Assist with employee scheduling, monitor hours and overtime, coordinate replacements for call-ins or cancellations.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of HR experience, including 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
• Proficient in payroll tools and MS Office (especially Excel).
• Knowledge of employment legislation and best practices.
• Experience with payroll and benefits administration.
• Strong employee relations and recruitment background.
• Experience in service, hospitality, or retail industries is a plus.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
• Discreet and professional handling of confidential information.
• Adaptable and calm under pressure with a proactive approach.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; HR certifications like CHRP or CHRL are assets.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance are required.
