Job Summary

Reporting to the Regional Director, the District Manager is responsible for all activities and sales results in the Greater Vancouver district. The District Manager will hire, train, and develop a management team to achieve sales growth, ensure district‑wide customer satisfaction and product quality, manage the territory’s financial performance, and uphold safety and security standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Regularly review outstanding vacancies and ensure all are filled in a timely manner at stores.
  • Hiring – create a talent pipeline by developing proactive staffing plans, and coordinate hiring activities including pre‑screening, interviewing, and reference checks.
  • Training – collaborate with store managers to ensure all employees receive adequate training in procedures and product knowledge, and that the training program is employed throughout the region.
  • Scheduling – review schedules to keep labour costs within projected limits and analyse labour reports each pay period.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations of all district store managers and ensure they complete staff evaluations.
  • Address performance issues professionally and promptly; manage merit increases and position changes in accordance with HR guidelines.
  • Health & Safety – enforce all safety requirements, including use of protective devices and completion of accident reports.
Operational Standards
  • Conduct monthly store visits.
  • Ensure all stores meet corporate standards through audits and prompt resolution of lapses.
  • Monitor inventory levels, develop action plans for variances, and maintain freshness tracking to reduce food write‑offs.
  • Execute the monthly Call to Action program in all stores.
  • Perform regular loss‑prevention checks and coordinate with the Loss Prevention department on shrinkage issues.
  • Analyze sales results, develop and implement individual business strategies, set targets, and remove obstacles to improve performance.
  • Provide after‑hours phone support to stores.
Sales Leadership
  • Monitor customer service models, resolve serious complaints, and provide feedback to senior leadership on improvements.
  • Conduct regular conference calls with the district team to review results and set priorities.
  • Participate in regional conference calls to share business trends and plans.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual district business plans and reviews.
  • Create a sales‑and‑profit‑focused positive environment throughout the district.
Store and Chain Growth
  • Ensure the Operations Department completes all store makeover responsibilities on time.
  • Assist in opening, closing, relocating, and making up stores as required.
  • Guarantee that all new stores are operational upon opening with well‑trained staff.
  • Monitor local competition and report relevant market activity to Real Estate.
Administration
  • Report and address store deficiencies.
  • Distribute communication memos and emails to the region and monitor compliance.
  • Prepare and submit operations reports, including brand standards and quarterly business plans.
  • Lead special projects as assigned.
Finance, Sales, and Reports
  • Prepare expense reports, code expenses, and submit receipts as directed.
  • Analyze reports and communicate opportunities to the Regional Director to enhance district profit.
  • Review profit and loss statements and identify improvement areas.
  • Control and minimise expenses through POS discounts, supply usage, employee discounts, and inventory management.
  • Drive sales via customer service role plays, shop score communication, and in‑store contests.
  • Maintain vendor relations by submitting invoices and purchase orders promptly.
  • Oversee loss‑prevention initiatives, including ADT report monitoring and petty‑cash audits.
  • Ensure loss‑prevention directives are followed and collaborate with LP Manager on employee theft cases.
Inventory and Merchandising
  • Assist store management in maintaining inventory levels to prevent depletion.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and stockroom standards.
  • Implement 8‑week cleaning rotations in every store.
  • Control loss by destroying damaged goods at the store level.
  • Maintain aquarium system standards and conduct water tests to minimise fish loss.
  • Use only corporate‑approved fixtures and promotional materials.
  • Enforce merchandising execution standards in every store.
  • Prepare and perform accurate physical inventories.
Staffing and Training
  • Ensure full staffing and quality bench strength across the district.
  • Control payroll expenses by assisting store managers with budgeted hours.
  • Interview, hire, and train store management teams.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and develop teams focused on sales.
  • Approve vacation requests to maintain adequate staffing.
  • Arrange travel for self and managers for corporate meetings and training seminars.
Communication
  • Share best practices, successes, and opportunities with the organization.
  • Streamline communication and ensure directives are implemented by specified deadlines.
  • Participate in special projects administered from the corporate office.
  • Engage in community events by planning and executing as needed.
  • Work closely with store and corporate teams to bridge communication gaps and increase effectiveness.
Experience, Education, and Certifications
  • College‑level graduate (preferably in Business, Retail or Marketing) or extensive retail experience.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of district or multi‑store retail chain management experience, leading 10+ stores in a large retail chain.
  • Strong retail visual merchandising skills.
  • Ability to travel, visit stores, and attend meetings.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time‑management, prioritisation, and problem‑solving skills.
Compensation

The targeted salary range for this position is $80,000 – $90,000 annually. The final offer will be based on market location, relevant skills, experience and internal equity.
