We are looking to hire an Area Maintenance Team Lead in the Dinosaur Park Area. You will be joining a team that is highly motivated to provide high quality recreational experiences to the public, and is passionate about tourism and protection of the environment.

The Team Lead is a role within the Regional Operations Branch that ensures that Alberta Park sites, infrastructure, and assets are regular maintained so that a high-quality park visitor experience is available to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

The Team lead is directly responsible for coordinating the Park maintenance operations for all Park maintenance programs found within the Dinosaur Area.

Role Responsibilities May Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Training and supervision of full time and seasonal staff
  • Completing Area annual operational maintenance plans, including workplans for each maintenance supervisor
  • Scheduling and overseeing the preventative maintenance of facilities, equipment, and vehicles
  • Performance evaluation of assigned staff taking corrective measures where required
  • Supervises and performs technical operations of various utility systems such as potable water distribution, waste water treatment, and irrigation systems.
  • Coordinate and assign maintenance tasks such as landsaping, garbage collection, trail conditioning, snow removal, vegetation management (firesmart + turf management)
  • Manages assigned service contracts to ensure services are delivered as required by he contract

Dinosaur Park utility systems include a sequencing batch reactor waste-water treatment system. The Team Lead will be responsible for acquiring and maintaining industry standards certifications.

Role Continued

Although this is a coordinator role, due to the remoteness of the site, some manual maintenance duties will be required to be performed. Therefore, you must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

While The Main Maintenance Shop And Office Is Located At Dinosaur Provincial Park, Other Park’s Maintenance Program Under Your Direction Will Be At

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park: is a popular irrigated treed, destination for camping and outdoor recreation just outside of Brooks. The lake, beach area, surrounding marshes and large campground provide many outdoor activities such as boating, swimming, sunbathing, fishing, hiking, bird watching and more.

Tillebrook Provincial Park: A treed irrigated campground and recreational park on the prairies which is a popular destination for RVers along the Trans Canada Highway.

Dinosaur Provincial Park (DPP): is located 48km NE of Brooks, Alberta and is rich in cultural and natural heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage Site attracts visitors from all over the world to experience the landscape of the badlands, its rich fossil resources, and the riparian habitat.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Two-year technical diploma in a related field plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described below. Related fields can include pertinent trade certificates (plumbing, carpentry, electrician, mechanics etc.) or related technical training such as engineering technology, building or project management.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Additional Requirements

  • Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
  • Wastewater Treatment Level 2.
  • Water Distribution Level 1.
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Criminal record check.
  • 3-year driver’s abstract.

Qualifications Continued

Additional Assets:

  • Experience working in a park setting (urban, rural).
  • Experience with turf management, vegetation management, and equipment operation in the landscaping industry.
  • Experience in Storm Water and irrigation systems .
  • Strong mathematical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Strong public relations, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to continually progress toward the completion of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Operator’s certificate program, and annual certification credit requirements.
  • Ability to understand the chemical and mechanical processes involved in water distribution, wastewater and stormwater collection and treatment.
  • Ability to operate computer systems related to water and wastewater operations.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload, including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and strong prioritizing and multi-tasking skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of working outside in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
