The Co-op Student would join our Asset Management group based in Ajax with the placement to last up to 8-16 months (preferably 12 - 16 months).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support distribution engineering in performing power system studies such as load flows, short circuits, and protection coordination studies.
2. Prepare technical reports on engineering topics such as power system capacity planning, load forecasting, system reliability performance, regional engagements, and meeting general meeting minutes.
3. Assist engineers in reviewing standards-related to stations, overhead, and underground distribution systems.
4. Participate in regional planning meetings with Hydro One (HONI), Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and municipal stakeholders.
5. Assist distribution engineers in the development of models on CYME software.
6. Perform other study and research assignments as advised by the Supervisor Planning and Standard and a Manager Asset Management, Planning, and Connections.
7. Collect and analyze transformer loading data, peak demand data and reliability data for stations and feeders.

SAFETY

Must participate in safety training and be knowledgeable of Company safety rules and practices and must implement safe work procedures that ensure the safety of the Company employees and customers.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

1. Understanding of advanced power system concepts and simulation tools.
2. Understanding of theoretical concepts of electrical distribution systems design and operations.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.).
4. Basic programming knowledge / working knowledge of databases.
5. Excellent writing and presentation skills.
6. Knowledge of tools such as CYME, GIS, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Enrolled in a post-secondary Electrical Engineering or Technician program with a focus on Power Systems, or Sustainable Energy.
