Job description

Join to apply for the Distribution Drafter role at Primary Engineering and Construction.

We have an opening for a Distribution Drafter at our Burnaby location, responsible for producing underground civil & electrical utility drawings and providing design support.

Responsibilities

1. Producing, modifying, and maintaining BC Hydro drawings.
2. Reviewing third-party drawings such as civil, architectural, landscape, and onsite electrical for conflicts and information as required by the project.
3. Interpreting GIS information.
4. Importing surveys and other data into drawings.
5. Site Survey for Record Drawing creation using SPECTRA survey technology.
6. Ensuring data integrity in design, construction, and record drawings.
7. Applying civil standards in designs and work.
8. Managing workload to meet deadlines with high accuracy.
9. Adapting to civil and drafting standards.
10. Supporting projects and taking on stretch tasks as needed.
11. Learning and exploring BC Hydro infrastructure and the design process.
12. Collaborating with senior members to maintain drafting tools, processes, and templates.
13. Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

• CAD/Drafting certificate or diploma from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Map3D, Civil3D, Raster Design, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.
• Strong understanding of Civil construction.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Collaborative and communicative, willing to liaise with other disciplines.
• Self-motivated with a passion for work.
• Class 5 driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in electric utility or related engineering environments.
• Knowledge of BC design and construction standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, SPIDAcalc, PLS-CADD, AGI32, and distribution design software.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
• Leadership experience through extracurricular or volunteer activities.
