We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Distribution Design Technical Lead with proven expertise in BC Hydro standards and tools, including Distribution Application Design (DAD), Passport, and Spida-Calc to join our Infrastructure Engineering Business line in the Burnaby office The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing high-quality electrical distribution designs, collaborating closely with designers, engineers, and project teams to deliver reliable and efficient solutions for overhead systems. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide mentorship and support to team members.
About The Role
- Prepare detailed designs for overhead electrical distribution systems, ensuring compliance with BC Hydro standards.
- Perform pole loading and structural analysis using Spida-Calc to validate system integrity and safety.
- Develop designs and documentation using tools such as DAD and Passport.
- Ensure designs are accurate, efficient, and aligned with project specifications and timelines.
- Work closely with designers, providing technical guidance and support throughout the design process.
- Review and validate design work completed by designers to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with BC Hydro requirements.
- Mentor and assist designers in using tools like Spida-Calc, DAD, and Passport to enhance team capability.
- Review and validate designs to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, providing solutions to address design or implementation issues.
- Maintain a high standard of quality and consistency across all project deliverables.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project scope, schedules, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with BC Hydro representatives for design approvals, ensuring all feedback is addressed promptly.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery while meeting quality standards.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to designers and junior team members, helping to develop their technical skills and proficiency in distribution design tools.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives, enhancing design workflows and efficiency.
- Share expertise in Spida-Calc, DAD, and Passport to strengthen overall team performance.
- Act as a technical liaison for clients, contractors, and utility representatives, ensuring alignment on design expectations.
- Foster positive relationships with stakeholders to support successful project execution.
About You
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Must be registered, or eligible for registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Applied Science Technologist (AScT).
- 3-5 years of experience in electrical distribution design, including BC Hydro-related projects.
- Extensive experience with DAD, Passport, and Spida-Calc is required.
- Strong proficiency in pole loading analysis and structural design validation using Spida-Calc.
- Comprehensive understanding of BC Hydro standards, tools, and processes.
- Proficiency in GIS tools, or similar software for distribution design.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with designers and engineers.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Salary range: $80,000 - 90,000
Expected Salary: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
