Job summary

City of Iqaluit is seeking a Dispatcher to join Emergency Services. Under the Deputy Fire Chief, the incumbent will monitor emergency communications and dispatch the appropriate personnel to incidents across the City. Must have a Grade 12 diploma and be proficient with MS Office.

Strong verbal skills and the ability to multitask in a high-demand environment are essential. Fluency in Inuktitut and/or French, CPR/First Aid, NFPA 1001, and prior dispatch experience are preferred; Criminal Record

Job description

The City of Iqaluit is looking for a Dispatcher to join our team!

Title: Dispatcher

Department: Emergency Services

Status: Term ending April 30, 2027

Rate of Pay: $39.52 / 42 hours a week

Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

Union Status: Unionized

Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring all emergency communications and dispatching the appropriate emergency personnel. This position serves as a vital link between the citizens of Iqaluit whom require emergency assistance and the appropriate response personnel

Additionally, the incumbent will monitor fire and contract alarm systems, provide information or direct incoming calls to the appropriate City or inter-agency department as well as monitor, log and assist non-emergency dispatch communications within various City Departments.

• Grade 12 diploma;

• Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel;
• Exceptional verbal communication and listening skills;
• Ability to provide timely and accurate information while multi-tasking in a highly demanding environment;
• Dependability and flexibility is required and may be subject to overtime.
• Dispatch/Emergency Communications experience;
• Experience dealing with the public in a polite, sympathetic and professional manner;

• Fluency In Inuktitut and or French
• CPR / First Aid, EMR Certification and NFPA 1001
• Firefighting or emergency response experience
• Experience with an incident reporting System

As per Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, priority will be given to Nunavut Land Claim Beneficiaries who meet the criteria.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered

All relevant certifications are required at time of application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check.
