Posting Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Protection Services Operations Centre Coordinator (PSOC), the Dispatcher maintains awareness of field activities, ensuring pertinent operational information is shared, and provides an immediate link to emergency and non-emergency assistance for Relational Security Officers, Interior Health Authority (IHA), and Northern Health (NH) clients as required.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Operates a VOIP telephone switchboard and computer terminal to answer calls; connects calls to appropriate locals and outside agencies; transfers calls as required; and provides general information.
  2. Receives emergency and non-emergency calls, records significant information, and prioritizes calls based on urgency, importance, and safety. Processes after-hours calls to on-call personnel.
  3. Supports the creation, collection, dissemination, and retrieval of reports, data, and activity logs. Maintains call logs and tracks requests.
  4. Operates various communication systems, including phones, two-way radios, and mass notification systems, to contact appropriate personnel following established procedures.
  5. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, utilizing tactical communication aligned with industry best practices, basic security training, and departmental policies.
  6. Participates in incident reporting and documentation, which may be used as evidence in court.
  7. Monitors security and life safety systems, including alarm monitoring, video management, and access control, following established emergency procedures such as Code Red, Blue, Orange, etc., and functions as a Control Centre during emergencies.
  8. Participates in electronic access card and photo ID programs, including processing requests and access changes.
  9. Reports malfunctions of communications equipment as required.
  10. Provides field units with information regarding orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
