Job description

Summary

Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, this position is responsible for the creation of daily schedules and works closely with Operations to meet client service needs.


Job Duties

  1. Provides dispatch services for the St. John’s fleet by way of constant communication between drivers, field personnel, operators, operations supervisors, and management staff.
  2. Responsible for gathering client training requirements during a request for service and schedule operators appropriately.
  3. Responsible for scheduling work taking into consideration employee skill, ability, required mandatory training while working within the scope of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  4. Documents and maintains records of all call-outs when scheduling work.
  5. Provides ad hoc reports to measure key performance indicators related to productivity and efficiency.
  6. Acts as a liaison coordinating between our various operations.
  7. Identifies optimization opportunities (i.e. backhauls) for the effective use of GFL resources.
  8. Acts as the first point of contact for all incoming calls and inquiries to dispatch.
  9. Creates and distributes the daily operational schedule to operations management.
  10. Participates in the after-hours/on-call program.

Requirements

  1. 2 – 5 years of experience, preferable in an industrial environment.
  2. High school education, or equivalent experience.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of TDGA, Reg. 347/558 and related regulations for handling and transportation of hazardous waste preferred.
  4. Related industrial cleaning experience, including vacuum services, considered an asset.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  6. Above average computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, the ability to decipher Google Maps, and find information online.
  7. Exceptional organization skills to ensure adherence to protocols, best practices for paperwork and operational flow of information.
  8. Familiarity with the capabilities of waste-related equipment.
  9. Must be flexible and can easily adapt to changing priorities with an ability to multi-task.
  10. Experience working with a unionized workforce and a collective bargaining agreement considered an asset.
