Job description

Job Posting: Dispatcher for Shunting Yard

Location: Montreal, QC
Salary: $25.00/hour
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 1:30pm to 9:30pm

We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Dispatcher to oversee our shunting yard in Montreal, QC. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and dispatching shunters to designated areas based on the needs of the shipping department. Your contribution will be essential in ensuring smooth and efficient yard operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Shunt Truck Coordination: Dispatch shunt trucks to transport materials between different production areas, loading docks, and storage yards in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain daily schedules for shunt truck drivers, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups.
  • Communication: Act as the primary point of contact between shunt truck drivers and internal teams, relaying information about any schedule changes, delays, or issues.
  • Safety Oversight: Ensure that all shunt truck operations comply with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements. Monitor and report any safety concerns or incidents.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of truck movements, deliveries, and schedules, ensuring proper records for operational tracking and reporting.
  • Problem-Solving: Quickly assess and resolve issues related to truck availability, delays, and production needs to avoid disruptions in the production flow.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Shipper and Receivers and other logistics staff to coordinate and adjust priorities as needed.

Requirements:

  • Fully bilingual in French and English.
  • Experience: Previous experience in dispatching, logistics coordination, or shunt truck operations is preferred, particularly in a production or warehouse environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and schedules simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, drivers, and management.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to make decisions quickly to solve logistical problems.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to enforce safety protocols on-site.
  • Technology Proficiency: Experience with dispatching software, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
