If so, we are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join Toronto Community Housing's Community Safety Unit. This unit provides a full range of special constable services in a social setting that supports community development and safety.

As a vital member of our emergency communications team, you’ll utilize your expertise to contribute to Toronto Community Housing’s efforts to improve neighborhoods and residents' lives.

We seek individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment, applying crisis intervention and multi-tasking skills to assess and respond to calls from the public. You will also dispatch and monitor a team of Special Constables across Toronto.

What you’ll do

  1. Receive calls from the public, tenants, and stakeholders, and determine the appropriate response or referral.
  2. Provide exceptional customer service to all callers.
  3. Apply dispatch skills and techniques in high-stress situations involving various emergency calls.
  4. Initiate responses from Police, Fire, and Ambulance when necessary.
  5. Dispatch Special Constables, Community Patrol Officers, Parking Enforcement Officers, and contracted security to TCH sites requiring service.
  6. Monitor officers’ whereabouts to ensure effective communication during their shifts.
  7. Record, document, and maintain sensitive and confidential information within law enforcement records management systems.
  8. Promote customer service in the dispatch center using telephone and radio systems.
  9. Conduct CPIC checks for persons and vehicles under investigation.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you’ll need

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in Law, Public Safety, or Emergency Communications is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of customer service principles.
  • Proven experience delivering positive customer service.
  • Knowledge of Niche RMS and Hexagon CAD considered assets.
  • Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software effectively.
  • Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement in time-critical situations is an asset.
  • Crisis intervention skills for emergency dispatching.
  • Knowledge of communication systems including telephone switchboards and radios.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Judgment to assess situations and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to prioritize responses in high-volume environments.
  • Good listening skills and commitment to respectful service.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
  • Good time management and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts and reassignments.
  • Familiarity with relevant Canadian laws is an asset.
  • Must maintain security and police clearances, including background checks.
