The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking one (1) innovative and experienced Disability Management Consultant to assist our employees with navigating the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), Short Term (STD), and Long Term (LTD) disability processes. Our Disability Management Consultants work in consultation with employees, the work area, and other internal/external stakeholders to develop and implement return-to-work plans and provide early interventions to prevent lost time from work. Duties include:
- Managing the EPS WCB account by monitoring and interpreting time loss statistics to identify risks and plan improvements with the Occupational Health & Safety Section. Promoting employee health through early intervention initiatives such as Occupational Injury Service (OIS) Clinics and on-site physiotherapy, along with modified work opportunities.
- Dedicated to the Emergency Communications & Operations Management (ECOM) Branch.
- Determining eligibility for short-term disability benefits based on collective agreements, case management, and building return-to-work plans for short-term claims. Collaborating with the Long Term Disability provider to determine benefit coverage. Considering illness nature, treatment, prognosis, barriers to return to work, and functional abilities to develop case plans. The goal is to provide wage replacement benefits and assist employees in returning to work.
- Leading the duty to accommodate process to ensure legislative compliance, requiring negotiation skills and knowledge of Human Rights Legislation.
- Continuously developing and improving disability management processes and best practices.
- Building positive, results-oriented relationships with multidisciplinary teams including labor relations, occupational safety, occupational health nurses, Reintegration Unit, and Employee and Family Assistance.
- Providing education on programs through public speaking to all organizational levels.
- Participating in or leading project work related to disability management.
Job Requirements
- University Degree in a Health-Related Discipline or Social Science, with eligibility for a relevant professional designation in Disability Management.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Disability Case Management/Vocational Rehabilitation, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Understanding of relevant legislation (WCB, Duty to Accommodate, Human Rights) and its application to employee return-to-work processes.
- Public speaking skills.
- Ability to work with medical professionals, with a strong understanding of medical assessments and reports.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to influence decision-making and provide clear instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships in a team environment.
- Advanced computer skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience with PeopleSoft and Cority (Medgate) is an asset.
- Experience in a policing environment and project management is an asset.

- Pre-hire screening includes an Enhanced Security Clearance, with ongoing clearances as required.
Hours of Work:
36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours may vary under the variable hours of work program.
Salary Range:
95M, Salary Grade: PT2, $96,664 - $120,829 annually.
