Description

Reporting to the Manager of Group Life and Disability Claims, you will be responsible for processing long-term disability claims to determine participant eligibility for benefits, relying on medical reports and related policies and procedures. The Case Manager must develop a case management plan for each claim.

  • Assess disability claims via telephone to determine benefits eligibility, considering medical information and contractual provisions.
  • Conduct detailed telephone interviews to gather pertinent medical and non-medical information.
  • Develop and execute a case management plan
  • Identify non-medical factors and functional limitations influencing disability duration and facilitate return to work in collaboration with a rehabilitation team.
  • Determine gradual return-to-work plans in collaboration with physicians, participants, and policyholders as needed.
  • Communicate with policyholders, participants, healthcare professionals, service providers, and government entities via email, phone, and fax.
  • Manage difficult calls with dissatisfied or irate callers due to benefit eligibility decisions.
  • Maintain participant files in the system.
Commitment to Service

Actively manage disability claims using all available resources, including IMEs. Attend meetings with clients and suppliers, and assist with special projects.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in health professions, human resources, or related fields, with 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and ability to handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety, medical terminology, and proficiency in English and French.
