Job summary

Imperial Oil is hiring a Disability Case Management Advisor in Canada to support disability case management and return-to-work processes with third party providers and WC boards.

You will assess health statuses, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure compliant documentation and reporting while supporting safe, meaningful work for employees.

Qualifications

  • Nursing degree or NP with provincial licensure eligibility.
  • 3-5 years related work experience preferred.
  • Disability management certification or eligible to register.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Familiarity with EMR usage is an asset.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services within the professional scope and standards of license specific to health care of employees
  • Advises on disability absence processes per policy and vendor contracts
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure processes are followed and supports return-to-work planning
  • Assesses work environments and health hazards to support safe return-to-work planning
  • Performs medication adverse effects reviews for fitness for work determination
  • Prepares injury and illness reports per policy
  • Ensures accurate documentation in employees’ health records
  • Supports absence and case management with third party providers
  • Interface with provincial boards for workers’ compensation cases
  • Provides alcohol and drug case management per policy
  • Liaises with third party providers and occupational health managers
  • Participates in Culture of Health initiatives

What Role You Will Play in Our Team

The Disability Case Management Advisor role is assigned to support the company disability case management and return-to-work processes in collaboration with third party disability providers (i.e., temporary disability, extended disability, & workers’ compensation (WC) boards). This position reports to the Disability and Workers’ Compensation Lead.

Whay You Will Do
  • Provides services within the professional scope and standards of license specific to health care of employees and other workers, as determined by the company
  • Advises on disability absence processes in alignment with company disability benefit policies and as defined by the terms of the company disability vendor(s) contracts
  • Collaborates with company and third party stakeholders to ensure processes are followed and supports return to work planning by determining fitness for work
  • Assesses and understands company work environments, operations, job demands, and health hazards to support safe return to work planning from temporary and extended disability within assigned areas of responsibilities
  • Performs medication adverse effects reviews for fitness for work determination
  • Prepares injury and illness reports, as per company policies and guidelines
  • Ensures accurate documentation in employee’s health record in the company’s electronic health records system as required, and in accordance with data privacy requirements
  • Supports absence and case management, including safe return to meaningful work of our employees from temporary and extended disability, as managed by external providers and provincial WC boards
  • Works in partnership with company stakeholders to resolve escalations and quality assurance matters related to absence and disability management
  • Serves as company interface with provincial/territorial boards for workers’ compensation lost time/modified work/hours cases for the purpose of return-to-work and accommodation planning
  • Supports co-managed and other case types with third party disability providers
  • Provides alcohol and drug (A&D) case management, in alignment with the company A&D policy
  • Performs case management activities for lost time cases where temporary or extended benefits are not supported based on eligibility criteria. Includes assessment of employee’s health status through health history, physical assessment, and appropriate clinical screening.
  • Reviews and analyzes employee intermittent absence reports provided by third party disability vendor and provides reports to HR
  • Liaises with third party disability provider and country occupational health manager if an independent medical examination is required to support benefit eligibility determination
  • Participates in Culture of Health or health promotion initiatives
About You

Education, Training, & Licensure

  • Nursing Degree, Nurse Practitioner Degree, or post-secondary education in health-related discipline
  • Current, or eligible for, unrestricted registration with provincial or territorial nursing licensing organization for primary work location
  • In good standing with the provincial licensing organization of the primary work location, and others as required
  • Diploma or certification in disability management – or eligible to register
  • At least 3-5 years of related work experience is preferred
  • Certification in occupational health (COHN(C)) is preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record usage is an asset
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required
  • Recognized expertise in disability case management and fitness for work determination
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills ability to clearly and concisely convey insights and advice/recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
