The Tax Director oversees tax compliance, planning, reporting, strategy, and risk management, providing strategic direction, managing tax operations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize tax efficiencies and minimize risks. This role requires a strong background in tax management, extensive knowledge of tax laws and regulations, and exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Key Job Responsibilities

Provides oversight and direction to the tax department to ensure the Company remains in compliance with tax filings and legislation.

Identifies tax planning strategies / opportunities, including associated risk assessments, and presents options to executives for consideration.

Oversees and completes initial review of Federal and State income tax compliance, including Federal, State and Local income tax quarterly filings and payments, Canadian tax compliance and transfer pricing, as well as indirect tax filings.

Oversees of completion of quarterly and annual US and Canadian tax provisions, provision to return reconciliations, tax related financial statement disclosures, preparation and maintenance of internal provision memos.

Responsible for responding to federal, state and local tax notices and managing federal, state and local tax audits and examinations and collaborating with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors to ensure timely and accurate completion of tax audits and resolving any tax-related issues.

Advises on proper structure of legal entities and intercompany activity, while overseeing compliance with transfer pricing.

Leads and develops a high-performing tax team, providing mentorship, training, and guidance to team members to enhance their professional growth and drive departmental success.

Stays informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging tax issues, and proactively identifies opportunities for tax savings or process improvements.

Education and / or Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA

10+ Years in increasingly responsible roles in finance leadership positions

10+ Years experience working with corporate taxes

10+ Years' experience leading teams

Significant practical experience in US and Canadian tax

Ability to identify, research and propose resolutions on tax issues

Must possess strong organizational and leadership skills, including ability to prioritize

Detailed oriented, with proven ability to drive projects to fruition

Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve

Excellent interpersonal & communication skills

Management of external providers

Ability to work in a fast-paced changing industry

Excellent written and oral skills, both in presentation and development of materials; ability to present and influence credibly at all levels in an organization

Excellent computer skills including experience utilizing Microsoft Office (including Excel and PowerPoint)

Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.

Ability to develop, as well as implement, a strategic vision
