Job summary

Engage Recruitment is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting to oversee financial reporting and compliance in their downtown Toronto office. The ideal candidate will come from a tech/SaaS background, possess strong IFRS and US GAAP knowledge, and have considerable experience managing teams. Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and group consolidation.
  • Public accounting experience required (Big 4 preferred).
  • Experience leading and developing accounting teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial report preparation and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Coordinate financial statements collection and ensure consistency with corporate requirements.
  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors.

Base pay range

CA$165,000.00/yr - CA$180,000.00/yr

We are looking for a talented Director of Financial Reporting to join our dynamic finance team in our downtown Toronto office. The role reports to the VP, Finance and will manage a team of up to six employees. Our preference is someone with a tech/SaaS industry background, who has experience in both IFRS and US GAAP financial reporting, and adept at working in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.

This role is hybrid with three days per week in our downtown Toronto office.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation, integration, and submission of legal entity financial reports in compliance with applicable accounting standards such as local GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant frameworks.
  • Coordinate the collection of monthly, quarterly, and yearly group financial statements, ensuring consistency with corporate requirements and deadlines.
  • Develop detailed group reporting packages that include financial analyses, explanations of variances, and critical disclosures for both internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Promote uniformity and precision in financial disclosures across all entities by working closely with regional finance teams and shared service centers.
  • Guarantee that statutory filings and group consolidations are completed accurately, promptly, and in readiness for audits.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, facilitating audit processes through thorough documentation and the resolution of issues.
  • Maintain and refine the statutory reporting schedule, procedures, and internal controls framework.
  • Keep abreast of updates in accounting and reporting standards, leading the adoption of necessary policy or procedural modifications.
  • Partner with tax, treasury, legal, and corporate finance divisions to ensure financial statements reflect all necessary considerations.
  • Supervise the reconciliation process between local statutory reports and consolidated group figures, resolving discrepancies and enhancing clarity.
  • Lead and develop a team of accounting and reporting specialists, fostering high performance and professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10+ years' of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and group consolidation
  • Public accounting experience required (Big 4 preferred)
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP, and local GAAPs
  • Public company experience
  • Experience working in/with multinational corporations, ideally with shared services and cross-border structures
  • Experience leading and developing accounting teams
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence at senior levels
