The Role

We’re looking for a highly motivated and experienced Director of Software Development to lead multiple software development teams. This role is crucial to the continued innovation and expansion of our banking platform and requires a passion for building high-quality software in a fast-paced, agile environment. You’ll have the opportunity to deliver complex software projects, build and mentor engineering teams, while driving innovation within the fintech space. Experience with high-volume transaction systems and a customer-centric approach are highly valued.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers and leaders, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for professional development, focusing on growth and high performance.
  • Champion engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement, particularly in areas like code quality and testing.
  • Collaborate with product management and business stakeholders to define the software development and product roadmap.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance, with an emphasis on agile methodologies.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to Neo’s engineering standards, balancing speed and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions, ensuring the platform's scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality software, emphasizing automated testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Continuously improve development processes and workflows, optimizing for efficiency and speed in a fast-paced environment.

Who we are looking for

  • Leaders with strong technical backgrounds who have experience leading people and teams.
  • Humble leaders who build through service, but who are not afraid to speak up, provide feedback, or hold teammates accountable.
  • Builders who have experience building and growing teams through continuous recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training.
  • Achievers who aren’t happy with an average team and genuinely want to build the best software development team in Canada.
  • Applicants must be willing to relocate to Calgary, AB.
