Position: Director, Social Media & Content

Department: Marketing

Reports To: Senior Director, Marketing

Position Summary

The Director, Social Media & Content will lead the development, production, and publishing of digital and social content across Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) brands; driving innovation, deepening fan engagement, and setting a new standard for sports storytelling.

This role oversees the department’s planning and operations, collaborating closely with leaders across Marketing, Communications, Hockey Operations, Sales, Corporate Partnerships, and Community Engagement to support key business initiatives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute social media and content strategies that elevate CSE teams and players, strengthen brand identity, and align with evolving digital trends and platform opportunities
  • Oversee the creation of compelling, original, and brand-relevant content across all CSE properties, driving fan engagement and expanding audience reach
  • Collaborate closely with Corporate Partnerships team to create social media and content strategies that support CSE’s partners and helps them achieve activation goals
  • Work cross-functionally to develop social media strategies and produce content in support of Marketing, Retail, Community, People & Culture, and Hospitality initiatives
  • Coordinate with the Communications department to access and prepare the coaching and training staff and players for their participation in content
  • Partner with the Director, Broadcast to develop content that enhances local and national broadcasts, ensuring alignment with brand storytelling and audience engagement goals
  • Mentor and manage a large team of full-time, part-time, and freelance staff, while managing relationships with key contractors and external partners
  • Serve as executive producer on key projects, providing creative and operational direction during live events, studio shoots, and remote productions
  • Quarterback the live coverage of all Vancouver Canucks games and major events while providing supporting guidance for coverage of other live events across the portfolio
  • Regularly audit and share best-in-class content across sports industry to serve as inspiration for the organization
  • Represent the Social Media and Content department in cross-functional and directors’ meetings and present key plans and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team

You Must Bring

  • A degree in marketing, communications, or digital media, or similar
  • Minimum 8 years of related work experience, preferably in sports, media and/or entertainment
  • Keen understanding of hockey and professional sports
  • In-depth knowledge of social media, mobile, and the overall digital media landscape
  • Proven creative vision and experience in developing progressive, evocative high-quality content that integrates with the master brand/identity
  • Proven ability to identify and nurture other creative talent and lead a team
  • Effective and enthusiastic collaboration and relationship building skills
  • An adaptable, flexible, creative, insightful and innovative personality
  • Ability to work well under tight timelines and to remain positive and calm under pressure
  • An open mind to new ideas and approaches with the ability to adapt well to change
