Job summary

RBC is seeking a Director of Risk, Controls, & Regulatory to lead a team delivering risk management, controls, and regulatory governance for the Cyber Technology Office in Toronto. You will partner across the enterprise to meet regulatory and governance obligations while guiding a high-performing team.

The role requires strong leadership, deep GRC experience, and the ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders and drive strategic outcomes in a dynamic technology environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in GRC, Audit, or comparable risk management or governance role.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction and align with organizational goals.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching capabilities.
  • Experience across cyber security domains such as network, cloud, and endpoint security.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Attention to detail with problem-solving and a proactive approach.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and set the strategic direction for risk, controls, and regulatory functions within the CTO, focusing on governance.
  • Drive results and ensure timely delivery of risk, compliance, and regulatory obligations with high-quality outputs.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, program teams, executives, and sponsors across the organization.
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction for effective risk management across regulatory programs and governance domains.
  • Collaborate with control testing, GRC, first/second/third-line teams to ensure project execution.
  • Manage competing priorities among stakeholders and address program risks and gaps.

With strong leadership and risk management experience and expertise, you will partner closely with stakeholders within the CTO and across the Enterprise to drive effective risk management and governance while ensuring the department meets and successfully delivers on its regulatory, audit, risk, compliance, and governance obligations.

What will you do?

  • Lead and set the strategic direction and vision for the risk, controls, and regulatory function within the CTO with a focus on governance.
  • Drive results and hold stakeholders accountable to bring tasks to closure, meeting risk, compliance, and regulatory obligations with high quality deliverables.
  • Execute effective communication with project managers, program teams, stakeholders, executives, and sponsors across the organization.
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction for effective risk management across regulatory programs and governance domains.
  • Partner closely with control testing, GRC, first, second, and third-line of defense teams to ensure effective execution of projects.
  • Manage conflicting priorities between various stakeholder groups.
  • Identify, raise, and address, where feasible, program/domain risks, ongoing process and program improvements, operational gaps, and inefficiencies.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:
  • Experience in GRC, Audit, or comparable risk management or governance role.
  • Proven experience in setting and driving strategic direction, ensuring alignment with organizational goals while effectively guiding teams through complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to inspire, mentor, and coach team members to achieve their full potential.
  • Experience with various cyber technology domains such as network security, cloud security, endpoint security, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Keen attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving, challenging the status quo, and thinking outside the box.
  • Effective time management and organization skills with the ability to multi-task and flexibly adapt to changing priorities.

Nice to Have:

  • One or more related professional designation such as CRISC, CISA, CISM, CISSP.
  • Experience responding to and/or participating in regulatory requests and exams.
  • Experience building and leading governance of a cybersecurity domain.
  • Proven track record of driving complex initiatives to completion on time.
  • Strong Cyber Security Technical Background
