Position: Director, Risk & Sustainability Analytics

Compensation Details :

  • Dir Bus. Intel. & Analytics 20 Dir: Salaries typically range from $127,380 to $169,838 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, as a preferred location. Alternatively, the role could also be performed in Montreal.
  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:

  • The Risk & Sustainability Analytics Team is in charge of building and maintaining data and analytics in support of EDC’s risk and portfolio management practices as well as the growing needs in sustainability and governance (i.e. financial crimes, sustainable finance, special risks). The team is a key contributor to the success of EDC’s Risk Program, providing the necessary data inputs to manage key underwriting and portfolio monitoring processes. The team ensures alignment with other enterprise reporting, perennity and integration within EDC’s overall digital roadmap.
  • We are looking for a seasoned and enthusiastic professional with strong interpersonal, leadership, analytics and problem-solving skills to join our team. The Director, Risk & Sustainability Analytics reports directly to the Vice President, Enterprise Analytics & Forecasting

What you will be doing:

  • Partners with leaders across multiple enterprise risk and sustainability functions to establish data and analytic needs, prioritization and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with EDC’s Risk Program to develop and operationalize critical tools to enhance EDC’s Risk management practices, such as large exposure reporting, risk budget allocations, consolidated heightened awareness / impairment lists, etc
  • Develop tools for portfolio construction and portfolio forecasting, in support of annual strategic reviews and the Portfolio Monitoring Committee.
  • Report on the performance and risk exposure by line of business/product as well as aggregated at the enterprise level, working with Risk Management Office towards Senior Management level and Board reporting on portfolio performance;
  • Establish EDC’s lending risk analytics practices & work with the Insurance Analytics & Investment Analytics groups to provide consolidated EDC-wide portfolio reporting.
  • Develop key risk indicators (i.e. “red flags”), leveraging modern analytics tools such as machine learning or AI, to focus risk and business leaders on the most pressing issues.
  • Along with the lines of business, and Global Risk Management Group, is involved in the ongoing assessment of potential credit and non-credit risks for the organization at line of business level and aggregates the results at the enterprise level.
  • Identify opportunities to further centralize risk data and associated analytics across the enterprise, allowing for quicker and easier integrated risk reporting
  • Collaborate with the Risk Data & Insights group to both upgrade EDC’s risk systems and augment the risk datasets.
  • Build out of EDC’s non-financial risk data and reporting capabilities, including key governance topics such as financial crimes.
  • Support EDC’s Sustainable Finance strategy with required analytics.
  • Working collaboratively with relevant groups promotes the design and implementation of predictive analytics and drives effective and efficient operations including the use of AI and robotics.
  • Directs the performance and skill/career development of assigned team to ensure the capacity and capability to meet organizational needs;
  • Sets priorities and allocates resources within own area of accountability to align with corporate strategy and planning.

What we are looking for:

  • Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Data Science or in a related field;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in relevant field of data analytics, risk management or risk oversight at a financial institution, or equivalent experience;
  • Advanced knowledge of financial products (including lending, insurance and equity) as well as risk data and metrics
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience or influencing at senior levels of management; and
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English & French).

  • Advanced knowledge of lending, insurance and investment business with a risk-reward control perspective;
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk data analytics, advanced statistical and machine learning models;
  • Experience in financial planning, profitability and capital management
  • Experience in Business and Sales Analytics
  • Experience working in a financial services and/or Crown corporation environment.
