Qualifications

Are You our next Director, Facilities and Real Estate?

Reporting to the Vice President, Insurance Solutions, Facilities and Real Estate, the Director, Facilities & Real Estate will be accountable for providing strategic leadership, direction, and expertise in real estate & facilities management across a broad portfolio of sites across Canada. This leadership position requires strategic planning, development, implementation, administration, and budgeting, as well as providing technical expertise and serving as a resource to all departments for property-related engineering, environmental safety, security, and operational issues. The Director will act as the primary liaison with external vendors, suppliers, general contractors, and regulatory agencies for facilities-related matters in collaboration with local site leaders. This role oversees all real estate and lease renewal execution, construction, cost estimates associated with building renovations, and construction management to ensure timely completion within budget.

How You will make a difference:

Facilities Management

  • Oversees all aspects of facilities management across the Dynacare network, including labs, LHSCs, offices, warehouses, and other facilities across Canada.
  • Contributes to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and standards to promote effective operations of facility management.
  • Prepares and manages departmental and capital budgets.
  • Leads policy changes affecting development approvals at all government levels.
  • Negotiates land acquisitions with landowners and/or agents.
  • Works with the Finance team to coordinate deposit and closing funds, and financial structures of transactions.
  • Collaborates with legal counsel to ensure successful completion of transactions.
  • Provides executive management with advice on real estate activities' implications.
  • Analyzes real estate trends and forecasts, providing timely and accurate insights.
  • Builds and maintains a high-performance team through effective leadership, recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Offers mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities to direct reports.

Space Planning and Design

  • Collaborates with senior leadership and stakeholders to define near-term and long-term space needs.
  • Provides expertise in space analysis, planning, design, project management, and construction, including capital planning and budgeting.

Security Operations

  • Oversees security programs by working with vendors, site leaders, and facilities teams to ensure safe, sustainable security services, including building access, CCTV, and parking management.
  • Ensures emergency and business continuity programs are developed and updated annually.

Environmental Health and Safety

  • Oversees environmental health and safety programs with senior leaders, site leaders, facilities teams, and vendors.
  • Maintains high standards in biological and chemical hygiene, waste management, environmental health, and emergency management.
  • Participates actively in the Workplace Health & Safety Committee.
What You bring to the role:

  • Broad knowledge of facilities management, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, environmental health, safety, custodial services, and construction.
  • 8+ years in a senior facilities management role, preferably within multi-site lab operations, hospitals, or the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Vendor management experience ensuring high-value contracts and service delivery.
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Project management experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships internally and externally.
  • Effective time management to deliver multiple priorities on time and with quality.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams with coaching and mentoring.
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with influencing and collaboration abilities.
Working conditions:
  • Local and national travel required 25-30%.
