Job summary

A large-scale, not-for-profit ambulatory health services centre in Richmond Hill is seeking a Director of Quality, Safety and Enterprise Risk. This leadership role will oversee the development of quality improvement plans and enhance patient safety in a new healthcare facility set to open in summer 2025. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in healthcare operations and quality management.

Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Chief Operations and Chief Nursing Officer and working in collaboration with the Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety, the Director of Quality, Safety and Enterprise Risk is responsible for providing corporate leadership for quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management. This role requires regular engagement with the Quality and Patient Experience Committee and close collaboration with senior leadership, directors, managers and medical leadership to develop and implement strategic directions that are consistent with the corporate mission and strategic goals. The quality improvement portfolio also includes providing leadership to the Surgical Ambulatory Centre’s Accreditation process, and annual Quality Improvement Priorities that align with our objectives of providing safe, quality patient care.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Quality and Patient Safety Strategy and Oversight

  • Lead the development and progress monitoring of the annual Quality Improvement Plan
  • Oversee the development and presentation of reports of serious safety event reviews and recommendations, for senior quality committees and the board
  • Lead key SAC-wide committees that contribute to advancing quality care
  • Support the Quality and Patient Experience Committee
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to build capacity and support standardization of approaches to patient safety
  • Contribute to the achievement of organizational efficiencies through a quality improvement lens

Enterprise Risk

  • Consult and provide interpretation of legislation, external standards and SAC policies related to patient care to key stakeholder groups
  • Provide oversight to the claims management processes and collaborate with HIROC and legal counsel to respond to claims

Operational Oversight

  • Provide director level oversight to the quality and patient safety team, and risk management team
  • Lead the development and implementation of key organizational goals related to quality, patient safety and risk mitigation
  • Develop departmental objectives based on emerging trends in quality, risk, and patient safety

Corporate Responsibilities

  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Be responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a Health-related discipline, health administration or business preferred
  • Ten years of recent and related progressive senior level experience in health care
  • Demonstrated experience in leading interprofessional teams on healthcare quality and patient safety initiatives
  • A superior understanding of the principles of quality improvement and patient safety (formal training or certification preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Enterprise Risk Management concepts (formal risk management certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with performance measurement, data reporting and analysis
  • Proven collaborative leadership, team building and change management skills
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and performance management strategies in the hospital sector
  • Superior communication, decision making, problem solving, facilitation and strategic planning skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Superior presentation skills
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check
  • Provide proof of Immunization and TB records
