Job Description

As Director, Public Affairs, you will be the strategist behind Davie’s voice and reputation. You will advise senior leadership, drive compelling narratives, and lead stakeholder engagement strategies that support our rapid growth, our people, and our position as a national leader. From crisis management to brand elevation, from local outreach to national advocacy, your work will have a direct impact on governments, media, industry, and communities.

  • Act as Davie’s lead spokesperson and manage all media relations.
  • Represent Davie at public forums, conferences, and major events.
  • Design and implement external communication strategies on a range of topics including public affairs, crisis management, and major corporate milestones.
  • Lead community and stakeholder engagement to build strong public support and address external concerns.
  • Build and maintain regional and provincial government relations in support of Davie’s priorities.
  • Drive advocacy initiatives to position Davie as a national leader in Arctic security, fleet renewal, and climate resilience.
  • Ensure brand consistency and narrative alignment across all communications, campaigns, and platforms.
  • Oversee the external communications team and collaborate with internal teams to support employer branding, business development, and public affairs.
  • Manage creative agency partners to deliver campaigns that inspire and mobilize key audiences.
  • Leverage data to guide strategy, translate complex industrial issues into accessible messages, and engage public opinion.
  • Oversee crisis communications and develop tailored response plans.
Qualifications
  • University degree in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or government relations, ideally in high-profile or complex sectors.
  • Proven expertise in reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and leading integrated communications campaigns.
  • Experience in defence, marine, infrastructure, or related sectors is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams, agencies, and budgets.
  • Deep understanding of Québec and federal government environments, with a robust network of decision-maker contacts.
  • Strategic mindset with strong creative instincts and political acumen.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Québec and across Canada as needed.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in both digital and traditional communication tools and techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills, stress management, and the ability to handle crisis effectively.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.
