Position Overview

The Director, Professional Resources & Administration is responsible for managing all aspects of the Montreal legal professionals, business services, legal support resources, and office operations in collaboration with the Montreal Managing Partner.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage all aspects of the lifecycle of legal professionals, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, leaves of absence, secondments, and outplacement.
  • Serve as the key contact for legal professionals, addressing feedback, partner/associate relations, and retention, while providing coaching and development guidance.
  • Develop and implement office-wide and professional-specific initiatives such as mentorship, DEI, and training programs in collaboration with Toronto colleagues.
  • Monitor workload allocation, working closely with practice group leaders to understand organizational needs.
  • Manage the Montreal law student recruitment process, including attending career fairs, coordinating firm tours, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and leading the hiring process.
  • Oversee the Montreal student program, including orientation, performance management, workload, and educational activities, and organize social events.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Professional Resources to optimize paralegal resources, ensuring skill, profitability, and demand alignment.
  • Partner with the Legal Support and Office Manager to deliver exceptional legal support and manage resources efficiently.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of office space and equipment, coordinate interoffice moves, manage facilities, and liaise with building management and vendors to ensure safety and security.
  • Work with senior management to develop and monitor annual office and employee budgets, managing expenses and vendor contracts.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members to ensure engagement, accountability, and service standards are met.
Attributes & Experience
  • LLB or JD degree
  • Relevant experience, preferably within a law or professional services firm
  • Deep knowledge of legal markets and professional landscape
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and client service skills
  • Excellent project management and multitasking abilities
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Ability to build trust-based relationships at all levels
  • Willingness to travel periodically and work evenings/weekends as needed
Additional Information

This role follows a hybrid work model with 4 days in-office weekly. New hires are expected to be in the office more frequently during onboarding for training purposes.
