Job Summary: The Director - Portfolio Control Manager - Risk ID & Appetite role will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and managing potential risks in collaboration with Capital Markets business units. The role will work closely with senior leadership, the business units, and our 2nd line risk partners to establish and monitor Capital Market’s risk appetite, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Identification:

  • Conduct regular materiality assessments of Capital Markets’ risks leveraging BMO’s risk taxonomy and risk identification process across all business units.
  • Assist in identifying CM data sources for use in data-driven methodologies for quantifying financial, non-financial and transverse risks.
  • Monitor for emerging risks and ensure they are accounted for in the risk identification inventory.

Risk Appetite Development and Management:

  • Ensure Capital Markets complies with BMO’s risk appetite framework.
  • Ensure that CM’s risk appetite is integrated into business planning, strategy, and decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and communicate Capital Markets’ risk appetite and tolerance levels through quantitative measurements (i.e., KRMs).
  • Monitor actual risk exposures with the established risk appetite and provide recommendations for adjustment when necessary.

Risk Reporting and Analysis:

  • Work with Business Unit and Business Risk & Control functions to establish, monitor and refresh KRIs.
  • Prepare risk profiles for senior management leveraging key risk metric (KRM) and key risk indicator (KRI) data in conjunction with qualitative insights.
  • Ensure risk mitigations plans are in place and actioned when KRMs and KRIs exceed tolerance levels.
  • Establish clear risk escalation protocols.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to properly identify, assess, and manage our risks through enterprise programs such as Risk ID and Risk Appetite.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders including auditors, regulators, and industry experts to keep abreast of emerging risks and best practices.
  • Participate in employee training sessions on risk management when required.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously improve the risk identification process and provide feedback into the 2nd line provided tools to ensure they provide valuable and relevant risk information to executives and business units and are effective in identifying risk in rapidly changing business environment.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in risk management, risk governance, business management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or similar is an advantage.
  • Proven experience with 2nd line programs such as risk ID and risk appetite.
  • Strong understanding of risk appetite frameworks, risk tolerance levels and governance practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment.

Work Environment:

  • This position typically operates in an office environment with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Occasional travel to support activities.

The salary range for this role is $140,000 up to $160,000 CAD (subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements).

Salaire : $84,000.00 - $156,000.00

Les salaires varieront en fonction de facteurs comme l’emplacement, les compétences, l’expérience, les études et les qualifications pour le poste et pourront inclure une structure de commissions. Les salaires pour les postes à temps partiel seront calculés au prorata du nombre d’heures travaillées régulièrement. Pour les rôles à commission, le salaire susmentionné représente la cible de BMO Groupe financier pour la première année au poste.

La rémunération totale offerte par BMO variera selon le type de rémunération associé au poste et peut comprendre des primes de rendement, des primes discrétionnaires ainsi que d’autres avantages et récompenses.
