Job description

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

The Director, Pipeline Maintenance will oversee all aspects of pipeline maintenance, integrity, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, this leadership role is responsible for developing and executing maintenance strategies, ensuring asset reliability, and leading a high performing team of maintenance professionals. The ideal candidate has a strong background in pipeline operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of all field integrity and maintenance activities including anomaly investigation digs, right-of-way maintenance, pipeline shut down activities, pipe and component replacements for pipeline and facilities in conformance to Trans Mountain standards.
  • Lead and develop the talent in the Pipeline Maintenance team through training, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Develop and implement operations standards, procedures, training materials required for successful execution of the Trans Mountain Integrity Program.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Safety teams to develop proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Plans and implements the logistics of pipeline maintenance projects.
  • Represent Trans Mountain with regards to day-to-day operations with municipality, regulator, and other agencies participating in internal and external audits and develop management action plans to address audit, inspection, and investigation findings.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with local community and/or contractor leadership.
  • Develops long term vision planning for the implementation of the anomaly investigation and right-of-way maintenance programs.
  • Review incident reports, making appropriate recommendations. Participate in incident investigations as required.
  • Leads field response to pipeline incidents and emergencies.
  • Ensure adequate resources and procedures are in place to provide an acceptable level of emergency response capability in the region and be prepared to respond as part of Incident Command.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve pipeline integrity and monitoring.
  • Manages the commercial and non-commercial fleet and safety program.
  • Support the roll-out and sustainment of a High Reliability Organizational Culture at Trans Mountain.
  • Accountable for the operating and capital budgets for the anomaly investigation, right-of-way maintenance programs and pipeline maintenance operating budgets.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering, Operations, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in pipeline maintenance, integrity management, or operations.
  • Strong leadership experience, with at least 10 years in a managerial role.
  • Professional certification such as PMP, API 1169, or NACE preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of pipeline regulations, risk management, and maintenance best practices.
  • Proficiency in asset management, predictive maintenance, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in development and executive strategic maintenance initiatives at a corporate level.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive operational improvements.
  • Experience with digital transformation initiatives, including IoT (Internet of Things), SCADA systems, and AI-driven predictive maintenance, is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Other Requirements and Information:

  • Location: Edmonton (preferred), Kamloops, or Burnaby
  • Up to 20% travel required
