Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Pharmacist Leader to oversee pharmacy operations across UHN sites, directing medication-use systems, inventory, technology and regulatory compliance while guiding strategic planning and budgeting.

The role requires senior leadership, collaboration with clinicians and administrators, and a commitment to equity and inclusion in a large teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in hospital pharmacy or similar setting.
  • Proven experience overseeing medication-use systems, sterile compounding, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing operating budgets and workforce planning.

Job Summary

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for pharmacy corporate operations across UHN.
  • Oversee medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, sterile compounding services, inventory management, pharmacy technology, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Direct workforce planning, resource allocation, and budget management activities.
  • Promote quality improvement, medication safety, accreditation readiness, and compliance with applicable standards and legislation.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, allied health professionals, administrators, and external stakeholders to advance patient care and operational excellence.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative models of care, digital transformation initiatives, and enterprise-wide projects.
  • Develop and mentor leaders while supporting staff engagement, succession planning, equity, diversity, and inclusion
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) from an accredited institution.
  • If holding a BScPhm, a Master's degree in Health Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Leadership, or a related discipline is required.
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital pharmacy, healthcare operations, or a complex health system environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading managers, multidisciplinary teams, and large-scale operational programs.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, sterile compounding, inventory management, pharmacy technology, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives in a complex healthcare setting.
  • Experience managing significant operating budgets, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
  • Strong knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards, medication safety principles, quality improvement methodologies, and relevant provincial and federal legislation.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nursing leaders, allied health professionals, administrators, and external partners.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, staff engagement, and the development of high-performing teams.
  • Experience in an academic health sciences centre, large teaching hospital, or multi-site healthcare organization is preferred.
  • Training or certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management Professional (PMP), Prosci Change Management, or equivalent methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading digital transformation initiatives, including optimization of EPIC, automated dispensing technologies, pharmacy robotics, business intelligence, and analytics platforms, is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated success implementing innovative models of care, operational redesign, and enterprise-wide transformation projects is considered an asset.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations, research, teaching, residency training, or healthcare leadership initiatives is considered an asset
