Position Overview

The Director People and Culture plays an important role in building and supporting a people-focused inclusive culture at Sunnybrook Foundation. As a trusted advisor to the leadership team the Director helps shape strategies that connect our people and culture with the Foundations mission and goals. Working closely with teams across the organization the Director leads with heart and values creating a workplace where everyone feels supported motivated and empowered to do their best. They also lead a small but dedicated HR team including an HR Manager and Senior HR Coordinator focused on making a real difference for our people.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive people strategy that aligns with and supports the Foundations overall business strategy ensuring that HR initiatives drive organizational success.
  • Provide oversight to the day-to-day HR operations to ensure smooth and efficient human resources support across the organization.
  • Oversee the full employee experience from recruitment and onboarding to development engagement and retention fostering a diverse inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.
  • Develop and implement the HR Business Plan including budgeting and progress tracking to support the Foundations current needs and future growth.
  • Utilize HR data and insights to inform decision-making optimize workforce planning and enhance the delivery of HR services.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to leaders and staff supporting leadership development performance management and organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage daily HR functions including hiring onboarding employee relations compensation performance management and training programs.
  • Foster open communication and employee engagement to build trust and ensure alignment with the Foundations mission and values.
  • Champion equity diversity inclusion and belonging initiatives to embed these values into the Foundations culture and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulatory requirements while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Lead succession planning and organizational design efforts to build a resilient and sustainable workforce.
  • Collaborate with hospital partners and other stakeholders to align HR strategies and maximize partnership opportunities.
  • Play an active leadership role in the Presidents Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART) Committee and HR Subcommittee contributing to meaningful systemic change.
  • Provide lead staff support to the Executive Committee of the Board including preparation of agendas and meeting materials.

What You Will Bring

  • At least 10 years of progressive human resources experience including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role preferably within the non-profit fundraising or health sector.
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Organizational Development Business Administration or a related field is preferred; however a combination of relevant education professional certifications and extensive HR experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and make well-informed decisions confidently presenting and standing by recommendations while building consensus and influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Experienced in managing complex HR functions and driving organizational change in fast-paced environments effectively balancing big-picture strategy with practical day-to-day leadership.
  • Inclusive leader dedicated to advancing equity diversity and inclusion by integrating these principles into everyday workplace culture and practices.
  • Skilled collaborator who effectively engages staff at all levels guiding teams and leading group initiatives through a consultative and inclusive style.
  • Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills skilled in negotiation conflict resolution team building and facilitating collaborative decision-making.

Total Rewards Package

The hiring range for this position is $per year. The salary will be determined based on the successful candidates years of experience qualifications and competencies that are relevant to this position. This position is also eligible for performance-based compensation.

In addition to salary our competitive compensation package also includes comprehensive health and dental benefits HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) hybrid work environment with a minimum of two (2) days in office two (2) float days each fiscal year and additional Sunny Days (long weekend closures in advance of summer long weekends and Christmas Eve).
