Role

Good Shepherd Centres, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. An opportunity currently exists at Good Shepherd in the role of:

Director of People and Culture

Full Time - On Site

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director will lead a team of HR professionals to provide service to co-workers through the implementation of mission-focused human resources policies and programs. Responsibilities include identifying and communicating knowledge of HR trends, best practices in employment standards and employee/labour relations, training planning, strategic HR initiatives, performance coaching, issues management, operations, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.

The successful incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining excellent employee relations with co-workers in unionized and non-unionized programs, as well as with representatives of three separate bargaining units. The role requires collective agreement interpretation and administration, grievance handling, and serving as the lead spokesperson for collective bargaining.

The candidate will demonstrate the Mission, Vision, and Values within the Human Resources Department, supporting two corporations: Good Shepherd Centres and Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes.

Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years of related HR management experience, including at least 5 years as a labour relations specialist
  • University or college degree, supplemented by a post-graduate HR and/or Labour Relations certificate, including a CHRP/CHRL designation, or equivalent education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of legislation such as Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, and Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity, ability to meet deadlines, and effective teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems
  • Proficiency in French or another language is an asset
