Partnership Portfolio Director

BCI's Partnership Portfolio team is hiring a Director to source, underwrite, execute, and monitor credit-related investments and adjacent alternative asset classes within the Global Partnership Fund. Reporting to the Managing Director, Partnership Portfolio, you’ll join a team of 12+ investment professionals managing commitments approaching C$23 billion, working across fund commitments, co-investments, and direct transactions while leading and mentoring junior team members.

We’re looking for someone with deep credit investing experience (8-10+ years) across disciplines like private credit, direct lending, structured or asset-backed credit, distressed situations, or leveraged finance, or a shorter track record in credit investing paired with equivalent transaction structuring or advisory experience.

Strong credit underwriting and structuring expertise across the capital structure is essential, along with the analytical rigor to model transactions and the relationship skills to source and manage co-investments and fund commitments.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director, Partnership Portfolio, the Director plays a leading role within a dedicated team of 12+ investment professionals managing investment commitments approaching C$23 billion. The Director sources, underwrites, executes, and monitors credit-related investments and adjacent alternative asset classes, spanning fund commitments, co-investments, and direct transactions pursued alongside the Managing Director and external partners. The role combines rigorous credit and structuring analysis with active portfolio monitoring and management, relationship development, and leadership of junior team members.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI’s global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies.

The Partnership Portfolio and Public Equities team manages long-only active internal and external equity mandates and absolute return strategies through the Global Partnership Fund (GPF). The team selects and monitors external equity managers for BCI’s active equity funds and has established a strong reputation as a sophisticated and agile co-investor. The GPF has delivered strong annualised returns through its absolute return investment strategy, with over 60% of new deployments directed toward co-investment opportunities that offer enhanced control over asset selection and risk management. The team leverages external expertise to complement BCI’s internal capabilities and capitalises on opportunities across various sectors, with notable focus on artificial intelligence, energy demand, and ESG investments.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • 8-10+ years of relevant investing experience across credit and related disciplines (e.g. private credit, direct lending, structured or asset-backed credit, mezzanine or hybrid capital, distressed or special situations, leveraged finance, or fixed income); or 4-5+ years of direct investing experience complemented by 4-5+ years of highly relevant experience such as transaction structuring, valuation, or financial advisory experience.
  • Relevant education or degree; a CFA, CPA, or CBV designation, or a Master's degree in business, finance, or economics, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in credit underwriting and structuring across the capital structure, including senior, junior, mezzanine, and structured or asset-backed instruments.
  • Experience sourcing, executing, and monitoring co-investments, direct investments, and fund commitments.
  • Familiarity with portfolio construction and risk management across credit and alternative asset classes.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, model transactions, and provide actionable insights.
  • Superior writing and editing skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality reports, memoranda, and presentations.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and an interest in working across a breadth of asset types and structures.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with the ability to lead and support investment, monitoring, reporting, and operational tasks in a dynamic, performance-driven environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.

Helps manage portfolio construction, including risk management, scenario analysis, and hedging or overlay strategies as appropriate.
  • Relationship Development & Collaboration – Develops and maintains a wide network of investment partners and, selectively, sponsors, intermediaries, and advisors to strengthen origination and co-investment access.
