The Opportunity: WSP is currently seeking an Operations Director for Ontario to join our Bridges, Highways & Roads team that are represented across Ontario. Reporting to the Vice President, this role typically has no direct reports but influences regional market segment directors and managers. Partners with and leverages shared services such as finance, human resources, legal, quality, and safety.

This position provides operational leadership and direction for the Bridges, Highways, Roads, Major Projects, Electrical/ITS design services, as well as Construction Administration services in Ontario. The role is responsible for optimizing the financial, commercial, and project delivery performance of the regional market segment. It ensures coordination of efforts across offices and other regional market segments, and develops plans, programs, and organizational objectives to enhance margins, workforce utilization, and cash generation, all in support of the WSP Canada strategic plan.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Help develop the regional operating plan and financial forecasts in collaboration with the Vice President, finance leader, and individual directors and managers.
  • Effectively communicate the operating plan and targets, engaging all directors, managers, and project management employees in achieving the objectives of the regional market segment.
  • Manage the implementation of the operating plan and its objectives for the regional market segment, focusing on project delivery excellence, financial performance, and strategic alignment.
  • Responsible for optimizing the performance of the regional market segment operations, including project margin, staff utilization, DSO, and general administration costs.
  • Forecast the financial performance of the regional market sector, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and timely forecasts.
  • Define contracting strategies, commercial terms, and risk mitigation measures during key pursuit processes, including direct customer negotiations.
  • Provide guidance to regional directors and managers to ensure operational and project delivery excellence, with support from the legal team.
  • Conduct project reviews to ensure budgets, schedules, risks, and costs are managed effectively.
  • Guide project management employees to mitigate performance issues and risks, ensuring successful delivery and profitability.
  • Collaborate with shared services to advance project management tools and ensure design meets segment requirements.
  • Leverage best practices across regions and collaborate to meet client needs effectively.
  • Monitor business development investments to ensure they deliver acceptable returns aligned with strategy and sales targets.
  • Champion safety and ethics programs to foster a strong organizational culture.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing large, technical projects in engineering or related sectors; project management experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong financial results.
  • Ability to handle challenging or turnaround situations creatively and proactively.
  • Unwavering integrity and good judgment with informed risk-taking.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfort with matrix management models.
  • Ability to influence and lead high-performance teams to seize opportunities and improve performance.
  • Strong leadership skills to foster collaboration, empower teams, and ensure accountability.
  • Internal WSP experience is a strong asset but not required.
