Job description

The Director, Operational Risk & Resilience Oversight (ORRO), will report to and support the Head of ORRO Governance. The role involves managing external engagements, including relationships with regulators, and collaborating with compliance, internal audit, and key stakeholders in the first line of defense. The Director will lead performance and maturity assessments of the ORRO function, developing performance measures and monitoring mechanisms for the team.

This job description is not exhaustive and may be amended as needed.

Position Responsibilities:
  1. Lead regulatory reviews and responses related to Operational Risk, collaborating with risk and governance teams and stakeholders.
  2. Manage internal reviews such as self-assessments, regulatory gap and maturity assessments, and internal audits, including reporting to senior leadership.
  3. Monitor regulatory changes, participate in industry forums, and share best practices.
  4. Oversee quality assessments, develop improvement plans, and coordinate their implementation.
  5. Support the execution of risk program enhancements.
  6. Conduct talent gap analysis, identify training opportunities, and ensure team development.
  7. Coordinate team engagement activities, track progress, and communicate updates to leadership.
  8. Maintain effective communication across Lines of Defense risk teams.
  9. Promote a strong risk culture and oversee related assessment processes.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and active participation in risk forums such as the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association.
  2. Over 10 years of experience in risk management, operations, audit, compliance, or technology, with increasing responsibilities.
  3. Experience in employee engagement, skills gap analysis, and training development.
  4. Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
  5. Proven collaborative and transformative leadership ability.
  6. Excellent project management skills, capable of managing multiple initiatives across teams.
  7. Business acumen with pragmatic problem-solving skills and experience as a consultant for framework implementation.
