The Director of Support Services (DSS) is accountable to the Administrator for the overall management of the dietary, housekeeping, and laundry departments. Through effective management of resources and development of a strong support services team, the DSS will ensure the delivery of optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements and organizational standards.
As the Director of Support Services, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, coordinating, directing, and monitoring the effectiveness of all operational activities within the dietary, housekeeping, and laundry departments;
- Establishing and maintaining an effective quality and risk management system to ensure legislative regulations and standards are met;
- Participating in strategic planning and accreditation activities;
- Participating in corporate and external committees as requested and attending the Corporate Director of Support Service meetings;
- Following all corporate policies and procedures; developing site-specific departmental policies as indicated;
- Leading recruitment, orientation, and performance management processes in accordance with organizational standards for all team members within the departments;
- Establishing, monitoring, and evaluating staffing patterns and work schedules in accordance with the annual budget and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable;
- Leading the development of the annual departmental budgets;
- Overseeing processes to ensure documentation is completed to maximize funding and access other funding initiatives;
- Contributing to the development of a safe work culture, leading by example in health and safety;
- Conducting regular safety audits and inspections;
- Participating in emergency drills and education sessions related to emergency preparedness;
- Fostering good working relationships within the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC);
- Interpreting MOHLTC legislation, regulations, and processes;
- Working in accordance with the organization’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Performing other duties as required.
Must haves :
- Relevant post-secondary degree or diploma. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
- Completion of a Food Service Nutrition Management Certificate from a recognized educational institution;
- Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (student memberships are not applicable);
- Related educational background or certification, and experience in environmental services and building trades;
- Experience with minor building repairs, plumbing, electrical, and grounds maintenance;
- Basic computer knowledge including Word and Excel;
- Vehicle and valid BC driver’s license. Applicable to British Columbia applicants;
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity;
- Knowledge of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, Standards, and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant statutes affecting long-term care operations;
- Successful passing of the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) or Criminal Records Check (British Columbia), as applicable.
Bonus points for having :
- Experience working in a Long Term Care setting is desirable.
