Director of Sales

Modern Technical Staffing is currently recruiting for a Director of Sales on behalf of a leading Canadian system integration firm. This company, based in Markham, Ontario,specializes in delivering advanced SCADA, MES, and IIoT solutions across industries such as manufacturing, energy, utilities, and process automation. The role offers an exciting opportunity to lead sales initiatives in a technically advanced, fast-growing environment. This role is hybrid and travel to the US is required.

Position Summary :

We are seeking a proactive and technically adept Director of Sales to drive business development and revenue growth. This hands-on leadership role involves developing and executing the company’s national sales strategy, with a focus on SCADA / MES platforms like AVEVA and Ignition. The ideal candidate will have experience in solution selling within the industrial automation space and a strong ability to connect with engineering and operations stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

Develop and lead a national sales strategy focused on industrial automation and integration services.

Identify and pursue new business opportunities across target sectors such as manufacturing, food & beverage, water / wastewater, and energy.

Build and manage relationships with decision-makers in operations, engineering, and IT departments.

Manage the full sales cycle including lead generation, discovery, proposal development, pricing, and closing.

Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure solution alignment and delivery feasibility.

Represent the company at relevant industry events, expos, and vendor conferences.

Maintain CRM tools to manage pipeline and track sales performance metrics.

Establish co-marketing and referral programs with key technology vendors.

Preferred Qualifications :

7+ years of experience in technical sales or business development in system integration or industrial automation.

Solid understanding of SCADA / MES technologies, especially AVEVA and / or Ignition.

Proven success in consultative B2B sales and complex solution-based selling.

Experience with small-to-midsize system integrators, OEMs, or vendor channels.

Degree in engineering, technical discipline, or business.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong results orientation.

Nice to Have :

Certifications or formal training in AVEVA or Ignition.

Exposure to cloud-based SCADA / IIoT architectures.

Familiarity with ISA-95, OPC UA, MQTT, SQL databases, and edge computing.
