Job Description

Job Summary

The Director of Safety is responsible for oversight of the safety teams, supporting the various operations within the OSCO Construction Group in the Maritimes, Ontario and New England (US). The position provides overall leadership and direction for OSCO’s safety management systems to achieve a safe workplace, foster a company-wide safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Director of Safety is the leader of our safety-first culture with a collaborative, team building focus and strong regulatory knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Develop key safety initiatives to support maintenance and improvement to safety metrics
  • Partner with operational leaders to develop and implement safety programs and improvement plans
  • Provide the tools, metrics, training and consultation to assist operations leaders in delivering a safe workplace
  • Drive accountability through regular health and safety meetings, site visits and safety investigations
  • Act as Lead in major investigations
  • Oversee and manage occupational compensation claims process, administration and reporting
  • Represent OSCO as safety advocate with unions, regulatory bodies and industry associations
  • Provide subject matter expertise to business and operational leaders
  • Develop quarterly and annual reports to update senior leadership and executives
  • Coach and develop the safety team
  • Other duties as assigned

Technical/Business Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
  • 15+ years’ experience in Health and Safety with 5+ years at the leadership level
  • 5+ years’ experience in a unionized manufacturing or industrial/construction environment
  • Knowledge of safety requirements in industrial manufacturing plants and construction job sites
  • Understanding of industry specific training programs such as: confined space, overhead crane, fall arrest, WHMIS
  • Travel to various provinces and locations as required
