Job Description : Director of Production Control

Position Title : Director of Production Control

Department : Production / Operations

Location : FTAI Canada

Reports To : Senior Vice President MRE

Job Summary :

As a member of the Senior Management team, the Director of Production Control oversees the production control function within Maintenance, Repair, and Exchange (MRE) operations and Piece Part Repair. They are accountable for coordinating all production activities at the Montreal Site, ensuring operations meet requirements, quality standards, and regulatory compliance. The Director has the authority to reprioritize production and support resources as needed to meet schedules. They drive efficiency, performance, and continuous improvement in production processes, leading a team responsible for managing production schedules, inventory availability, workflow optimization, and compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning :
  • Develop and implements a robust production management system using tollgates to ensure timely readiness of all aspects and pre-requisites for production.
  • Lead and mentor the production control team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of production plans while balancing resource utilization, cost control, and production timelines.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of production operations and take corrective actions when needed.

Production Alignment and Coordination :

  • Ensure the timely completion of all maintenance, repair, and exchange activities, considering resource availability, production priorities, and material constraints.
  • Direct the coordination of Piece Part Repair production requirements in line with Daily and Weekly Plans to ensure completion of tasks in alignment with 3rd party customers and MRE needs
  • Lead the coordination between cross-functional teams (e.g., Procurement, Engineering, Engineering, Production and, Logistics) to guarantee the smooth flow of production activities.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules that optimize the use of labor, equipment, and materials, ensuring minimal downtime and on-time delivery.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making and Reporting :
  • Analyze production data and performance metrics to provide insights and recommendations to Senior Management for improving production processes and meeting financial goals.
  • Prepare regular reports on production performance, including key metrics such as on-time delivery, cycle times, inventory turnover, and cost efficiency.
  • Use advanced analytics and production software tools to track trends, forecast demand, and identify potential risks or bottlenecks in production.
  • Team Leadership and Development :
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of production control professionals, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive work environment that encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback and coaching to ensure continuous development of staff.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to staff to ensure skill development and career progression.
  • Resource Management :
  • Oversee resource planning to ensure that personnel, equipment, and materials are available and allocated effectively to meet production requirements.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Logistics teams to meet set inventory levels of parts and materials and implement lean inventory strategies as appropriate.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting :
  • Track and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, schedule adherence, and quality.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to Senior Management on production performance, progress, and potential risks.
  • Analyze production data and provide actionable insights to improve performance and identify areas for improvement.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration and Communication :

  • Act as the primary point of contact for production-related inquiries, ensuring effective communication and alignment on company priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings to address challenges, resolve issues, and ensure that production goals are met.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance production planning and ensure the timely delivery of goods and services.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in business administration, industrial management, operations management, or related field required.
  • Experience :
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in production control, operations management, or a related role in the aerospace MRE industry.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or managerial role, preferably managing a team in a high-volume, complex production environment
  • Proven experience in driving cross-functional collaboration.

Skills :

  • Strong understanding of maintenance, repair, and exchange operations.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of production control systems, ERP systems (e.g., Quantum), and other manufacturing software.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis, process optimization, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the aviation industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Leadership : Capable of managing and motivating a diverse team to achieve operational goals.
  • Analytical Thinking : Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable solutions to improve production performance.
