The Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) is the provincial regulator for property and casualty insurance brokers in Ontario. Our primary mission is to protect the public in their interactions with insurance brokers.

We are seeking a full-time, experienced Director of Operations and Strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

This leadership role reports to the CEO and is a member of RIBO’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

The Director focuses on developing and implementing strategic and operational plans to enhance organizational performance and efficiency, emphasizing operational optimization, financial governance, customer service excellence, and human resources in line with RIBO’s mandate and strategic plan.

This position involves hands-on work and daily leadership of a team of approximately five professionals.

The ideal candidate combines strategic insight, operational excellence, financial acumen, and strong leadership skills to support organizational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Strategic Planning and Leadership
  • Support development and execution of strategic and operational plans aligned with RIBO’s mandate.
  • Implement and report on performance metrics and KPIs to monitor progress.
  • Assist Leadership Team members with business modeling, planning, risk assessment, and organizational development.
Operational Optimization and Service Delivery
  • Collaborate with leadership to optimize workflows, tools, and systems for efficient service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement with measurable outcomes.
  • Evaluate and re-engineer key processes for efficiency, compliance, and user-friendliness.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance service responsiveness and customer experience.
  • Develop customer service standards, feedback mechanisms, and staff training.
  • Monitor service performance and utilize data for ongoing improvements.
Strategic Financial Management (approx. 20%)
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Oversee finance functions including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, investments, and insurance.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
  • Monitor financial health, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions.
HR Management and Organizational Development
  • Manage HR functions such as payroll, benefits, recruitment, and compliance.
  • Support change management and internal communications.
  • Oversee physical office management and security.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff, fostering a positive and innovative culture.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • At least 10 years in operations, strategic planning, and business management with leadership experience across HR, finance, and customer service.
  • Financial accreditation and Lean Six Sigma certification are assets.
  • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex systems.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Experience presenting to executives and boards.
  • Ability to improve customer experience through systems and leadership.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Capacity to manage change, innovate, and lead with integrity.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other relevant technologies.
Working Conditions
  • Office-based role.
  • Availability for travel, including overnight trips.
