OverviewThe Director of Operations will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day plant operations and engineering processes across two locations: Toronto and New York State. Your primary objective will be to ensure that all operations run efficiently and effectively, while aligning with the company’s broader organizational goals. You will play a key role in creating, implementing, and streamlining processes, managing operational teams, and implementing strategies to maintain and improve plant performance in both locations. This position will report to the President.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, manage, and optimize day-to-day plant operations, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal downtime.
- Develop and implement engineering processes to streamline operations, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
- Oversee the performance and safety standards of plant equipment, engineering systems, and team members.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to improve operational performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, applying lean manufacturing principles, automation technologies, and software tools.
- Provide leadership and direction to engineering and operations teams, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
- Communicate with suppliers, vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and high-quality service delivery.
- Lead and support plant projects, ensuring timely and successful completion of new installations, upgrades, and process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Knowledge And Skills- Strong knowledge of plant operations, mechanical and/or electrical systems, engineering processes, and optimization strategies.
- Ability to implement process improvements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets, resources, and schedules effectively.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering processes and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable plans.
- Familiarity with compliance and safety regulations governing manufacturing operations.
Education And Experience- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations or engineering management role in a manufacturing, automotive or industrial setting.
- Demonstrated experience in plant operations, process engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience working with 3rd party service providers, shipping and receiving, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is an asset.
- Certifications in Lean Six-Sigma and Kaizen are an asset.
