About Canadian Tank Museum :

The Canadian Tank Museum is a registered charity and operates a Museum in Oshawa, ON Canada.

The Museum is dedicated to the preservation of our proud military heritage with a focus on Tanks, and military vehicles used by the Canadian Armed Forces, our allied and enemy combatant Nations during the many conflicts of our history. The Museum is home to North America's largest collection of operational historical military vehicles and prides itself on “Keeping History Alive”.

The Museum is also home to The Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum; the official Regimental Museum of Durham Region's armoured unit. The Regimental Museum is an accredited Canadian Armed Forces Museum.

Job Summary:

As Director of Operations you will lead a team of staff and volunteers to plan and execute the many complex operations of our Museum including major events, logistics and transportation of large artifacts, coordination of movie rentals, community event participation, parades and more.

You will also be responsible for managing our many facilities and their upkeep. Working with contractors, volunteers and staff to maintain, repair and improve our physical buildings and property.

This is a multifaceted and multidicipline environment where a successful candidate will bring a wide assortment of skill and experience to the position to complete the objectives and meet the needs of a fast growing organization.

Reporting to the Executive Director; the Director of Operations will manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the museum and it’s administration. This includes but is not limited to the management and negotiation of corporate accounts, facilities maintenance, website and digital assets, donor and sponsor relationships, volunteer and staff management, logistical operations, and more.

The Director of Operations will assist the Executive Director in all duties and responsibilities related to the smooth management of the museum operations and will act as the operational 2IC. The Director must be able to deal with a multitude of varied duties and tasks in a multi-disciplined organization.

You will also work with groups of staff or volunteers on a wide range of projects from planning and executing events, facility rentals and vehicle rentals.

Key Responsibilities:

As Director of Operations you will be responsible for; managing the facility utilities and the expenditures of several subordinate departments ie: Gift Shop, Facilities

Maintenance, Marketing and more. You will be required too:

● Provide inspired leadership for the organization.

● Make important policy, planning, and strategy decisions.

● Develop, implement and review operational policies and procedures.

● Help promote a museum culture that encourages top performance and high

morale.

● Oversee budgeting, reporting, planning, and auditing.

● Work with senior stakeholders.

● Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with

laws and regulations.

● Work with the Museum President and Executive Director to determine values and

mission, and plan for short and long-term goals.

● Identify and address problems and opportunities for the organization.

● Build alliances and partnerships with other organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Museum Development or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in Operations Management, preferably within a nonprofit environment. Experience in management, operations, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow management. Experience with non-profit organizations an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear planning documents and instructions.
  • Experience organizing and managing events.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, industry colleagues in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Google Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Museums and the Canadian Armed Forces landscape is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
