Job description

Our client is a growing boutique professional services firm that specializes in audit, tax, and accounting. The firm is known for its strong client relationships, high-quality advisory work, and entrepreneurial culture. The Role

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role designed for a strong operator with proven success in driving process improvements within professional services or finance environments.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for modernizing firm operations, introducing scalable systems, and strengthening core processes such as accounts receivable management, workflow efficiency, and internal controls. The role, located in Markham, requires in-office presence (5 days a week).

Reporting directly to the Partners, the Director of Operations will:

Assess current operations and design modern, scalable processes across accounting, audit, tax, and client service functions.
Lead improvements in billing and collections practices to reduce outstanding accounts receivable and strengthen cash flow discipline.
Implement operational best practices, systems, and tools to enhance firm-wide efficiency and accountability.
Oversee business performance metrics (KPIs), providing visibility to leadership and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Develop and enforce policies and procedures that support high-quality client delivery, regulatory compliance, and team collaboration.
Partner with leadership to translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans, ensuring alignment across the firm.
Manage firm-wide resources and administrative functions, optimizing how people, systems, and processes work together.
Support the growth and scalability of the business by introducing structure, discipline, and data-driven decision-making.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

5–10 years of progressive experience in operations, consulting, or accounting/finance.
Background could include:
Former management consultant OR
CPA/accountant who transitioned into operations with demonstrated success in modernizing firm practices.
Strong financial acumen, including experience improving billing, collections, and firm-wide financial workflows.
Proven ability to design and implement process improvements within professional services, accounting, or related industries.
Entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in lean environments where structure needs to be built.
Collaborative, low-ego leadership style, with the ability to influence and drive change without heavy hierarchy.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective in project management.
