About Us

IATSE Local 891 consists of over 9,000 professional artists and technicians who work in film and television production in BC. We support all genres of production at all budget levels and have made some of the biggest feature films and some of the longest-running and most successful television series ever screened.

Job Summary

The Director of Operations works under the direction and supervision from the President. This position is primarily responsible and accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of the Local including but not limited to membership services, finance and benefits, dispatch, and training.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of administrative professionals to provide timely and effective support to members
  • Provides comprehensive administrative and executive support to the President
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Local, ensuring seamless delivery of membership services Management of IT and related Programming to support organizational needs
  • Responsible for the oversight and development of Assistant Managers and their respective teams
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, including the offices of the Business Representative and Senior Steward to ensure strategic alignment
  • Actively participates in providing input to human resources decision-making, including the areas of recruitment, performance management, and workplace policy development
  • Attends Executive Meetings in a support function to the President including, but not limited to, the Executive Board, Executive Committee, and General Meetings
  • Providing ongoing strategic and financial management support to the Executive Board
  • Recommends and implements policies, procedures, and systems required to efficiently support the membership
  • Actively participates in labour management and collective bargaining
  • Supports the President, Senior Steward, and Business Representative on an ad-hoc basis
  • Conducts other related responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive relevant experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field required
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing structure, making sound policy recommendations, and providing strategic advising
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience applying principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-oppression in leadership, policy development, or service delivery
  • Proven experience leading dynamic teams of professionals in a performance-driven environment
  • Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed to continuous improvement in service delivery and overall optimization of internal procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, possesses high degree of professionalism and tact
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality and familiarity with relevant privacy legislation
  • Aptitude for problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and ability to perform all functions without prompting.

Job Title: Director of Operations

Status: Permanent, full-time

Salary: Starting at 120k

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

Start Date: ASAP

Location: In-person, 1640 Boundary Rd., Burnaby, BC

Classification: Exempt (non-union)
