Job Overview

The Director of Business Development (OEM) is responsible for supporting and growing sales and profits for the related market channels, providing marketing input, and promoting product line growth primarily through the creative use of both existing and new products. This role requires an educational background, industry experience, and contact with customers and prospects. The individual must possess a unique blend of business and technical knowledge, a big-picture vision, and the drive to realize that vision. They must understand customer problems, solution attributes, and identify innovative product and/or service solutions to assist the broader market. The individual will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for assigned products, working with the sales channel and key customers to promote Hubbell and its product solutions. Cross-functional collaboration within Hubbell is essential to drive alignment and strategy execution.

Division Overview

Hubbell Connectors, Grounding, & Tooling focuses on products supporting two businesses: Burndy and Connector Manufacturing Company, with markets in renewable energy, OEM, transportation, data centers, telecom, utility, extreme environments, power generation, and oil & gas. We set industry standards with our products. Our success depends on our value proposition, and the strength, knowledge, and expertise of our employees.

A Day In The Life

  • Developing and recommending product line strategies for OEM applications across all Connectors, Grounding & Tooling businesses.
  • Leading research and analysis for economic justification, competitive pricing, financial models, features, and applications.
  • Leading regular team meetings to advance project execution.
  • Managing T2T relationships with key end customers.
  • Providing intelligence on product and market issues, competitors, business trends, and regulations; producing reports and attending sales meetings; conducting product training and research.
  • Developing strategic partnerships with existing and emerging market participants.
  • Supporting the development of new product launch materials with Marketing.
  • Maintaining competitive cross-reference of catalog numbers for assigned products.
  • Providing exemplary support to sales and customers on product questions.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical or business field, with 7-10 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, methods, standards, applications, and distribution channels within the renewables market.
  • Preferable experience in the OEM space, related design, engineering processes, and market applications.
  • Self-reliant, resourceful, creative, with sound business judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to organize and manage ad-hoc teams for business development.
  • Critical thinking skills for market and product launch strategies.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally; strong analytical and computer skills.
