Job Title: Director of Mergers and Acquisition

Valsoft is looking for a talented, versatile, and passionate M&A Director to continue our global expansion.

We operate and manage a global portfolio of wholly owned software companies, delivering mission-critical solutions across multiple verticals. By implementing industry best practices, Valsoft ensures a time-sensitive integration process and operates a decentralised model, fostering rapid growth through reinvestment in its portfolio.

The Role

The M&A Director will work in an extremely entrepreneurial environment and will be responsible for building relationships with software business owners, brokers, and the like, with the ultimate goal of capital deployment and investment. You will be a full-cycle M&A professional with salesmanship and charisma for business development activities, but also have analytical and financial authority to manage and execute the due diligence process. This is an incredible opportunity to manage, invest and deploy large capital at an extremely fast pace. With the potential to eventually build, grow and manage an M&A team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify M&A targets that align with Valsoft's growth objectives, aiming to generate $200M+ in buyable revenue opportunities per quarter.
  • Employ a proactive approach, reaching out to potential targets through various channels, conducting exploratory calls, and fostering relationships with owners and sell-side advisors.
  • Evaluate and assess target acquisitions against Valsoft's criteria, and determine realistic valuation expectations.
  • Conduct a comprehensive pre-acquisition due diligence encompassing both commercial and financial aspects in collaboration with the Montreal team.
  • Negotiate deal terms, ultimately aiming to achieve $15-20M per year in acquired revenues with the support of the Investment Partner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Investment banking, private equity, M&A, or corporate development within a capital market setting.
  • Strong business development and financial analysis skills, including building financial models.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • CFA or CIIA (asset)
  • Familiarity with a buy and build model and experience/knowledge in VMS or software (asset).
  • Demonstrated thirst for learning about different businesses in diverse industries.
  • Possesses a growth mindset, consistently seeking personal and process improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain genuine, long-term relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, capable of independently navigating challenges and setting up operations in new countries.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the potential to build, grow, and manage a local team in the future.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
