Job description
Overview

A leading manufacturing company is seeking a talented and driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques, and experience with metal fabrication and retractable covering systems. This role reports directly to the CFO & Owner and leads the custom design engineering, metal and industrial fabric manufacturing, installation, and service departments. The position requires management experience across multiple departments (excluding finance, sales & marketing) and the ability to organize and optimize plant layout and workflows.

Must be a Canadian citizen and able to travel to the USA for 2–3 weeks at a time; a valid Canadian passport and travel capability are required.

Our client designs specialty retractable covering systems for over-the-road truck and trailer equipment in both semi and non-semi markets, including Over-Dimensional Transporter designs for larger load coverings on specialty equipment. The company is in early development with knowledge of existing designs and the introduction to industrial outside storage markets with retractable buildings.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain efficient manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Streamline manufacturing operations.
  • Liaise with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Manage the team and ensure accountability for outcomes and timelines for completion.
  • Ensure efficiency of all labor and meeting hour standards for tasks.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the design and development of new products and processes.
  • Manage and support the implementation of new equipment and technology to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with quality control engineering and other departments to ensure products meet quality and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
  • Conduct cost analysis and make recommendations for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and progress.
  • Inventory management.
  • Capable of conducting complex engineering calculations alongside simple math for production.
  • Mentor and train junior team members to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Multi-site responsibility.
  • Contribute to new design input for custom orders and new product development.
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen.
  • Must be able to travel to the USA for 2–3 weeks at a time; must have a valid Canadian passport and ability to travel.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience in shop floor production optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using CAD software and other relevant tools.
  • Experience in undertaking a manufacturing startup including layout, equipment needs, power requirements, and processes.
  • Experience in managing and analyzing labor hours to complete tasks and implementing corrective actions.
