Temporary contract - 24 months

We are looking for a Director of Legal Affairs to oversee and coordinate all legal activities within the organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will play a key role in the growth of Germain Hotels by ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal risks, and representing the company with external parties, including partners, regulatory authorities, and courts.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Provide strategic, clear, and tailored legal advice to internal teams and senior management.
  • Draft and negotiate, in French and English, all documents related to hotel development: purchase agreements, development agreements, construction contracts, etc.
  • Draft and negotiate various legal documents related to leasing: commercial leases, termination agreements, assignments, guarantees, letters of credit, parking agreements, subleases, etc.
  • Support operations teams across Canada by reviewing supplier contracts and providing practical recommendations.
  • Ensure the organization’s legal compliance (corporate, labor, commercial law, privacy, etc.).
  • Manage litigation in collaboration with external law firms (monitoring legal proceedings, settlements, etc.).
  • Take part in financing, mergers, acquisitions, or other large-scale corporate projects.
  • Guide governance, ethics, and internal compliance policies.
  • Participate in annual meetings and draft minutes.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the growth of lawyers within the department.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in real estate law, either in-house or in private practice.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial leases, real estate transactions, and business law.
  • Ability to simplify legal issues and propose realistic, applicable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills in French and English, both spoken and written, given the nature of the role and frequent interactions with anglophone colleagues, partners, or clients across Canada.
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Team spirit, professionalism, and practicality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Passionate about travel? Take advantage of great rates when you stay at Germain Hotels and explore the country. Again and again!
  • A work environment that fosters creativity and autonomy – contribute to the growth of a company that strives to help you progress and recognizes you for who you truly are.
  • Squats help you relax? Enjoy access to a state-of-the-art gym right at your workplace.
