Job description

We are in an energy transition – sustainability and renewable attributes of our power generation sources are becoming increasingly important to society. Hydroelectric power plants play a crucial role in the mix because water is an inherently renewable “fuel”, and because waterpower serves to enable other renewable, but non-dispatchable, generation forms. Our work includes engineering for new greenfield waterpower facilities but more likely the redevelopment, refurbishment and renovation of existing, historic plants. Your Opportunity

This role supports the business center’s leadership in managing the performance, growth, and development of the HVDC business within Stantec. Responsibilities include providing technical support on HVDC projects, supporting business development, managing resources, and monitoring project quality and delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities

1. HVDC Resource Coordination

• Coordinate and assign resources to projects, optimize staff utilization, and ensure project progress aligns with budget, schedule, and quality targets.

1. Business Development

• Support proposal preparation, stay updated on industry developments, and represent Stantec at industry events to foster growth opportunities.

1. Staff Development

• Identify training needs, organize team meetings, and facilitate professional growth and team cohesion.

1. Project Delivery

• Provide technical support, conduct peer reviews, coordinate with staff and clients, and develop tools to improve service delivery.

1. Supervisory Functions for Direct Reports

• Conduct performance reviews, approve timesheets and expenses, and support staff career development.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in HVDC and FACTS systems, with skills in system design, specifications, testing, and commissioning. Knowledge of applicable standards, leadership ability, and excellent communication skills are essential. A BSc in electrical engineering is required; MSc or PhD is preferred. Registration in Canada or the US is desirable. The role may involve travel and can be remote.
