Are YOU our next Director of Operations?

As Director, Operations – British Columbia, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Dynacare’s operations across the province. In this senior leadership role, you will ensure the efficient functioning of multi-site operations, drive regulatory compliance, deliver exceptional customer service, and support business development initiatives. Your expertise in laboratory management, LHSC operations (patient service center’s), and customer relationship management will be key to fostering team development and achieving operational excellence. You will uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and scientific integrity while providing strategic direction. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Operations, you will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to advance Dynacare’s mission of being Canada’s health and wellness leader.

How YOU will make a difference:

Strategic Leadership & Management

  • Develop and implement comprehensive laboratory operational strategies and LHSC management aligned with organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement a 1–2-year business plan.
  • Provide direct leadership for operations managers and frontline employees, including hiring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Provide leadership and stakeholder relationship management for support functions in B.C. such as QA, Business Development, finance, H.R., ITSS.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to optimize laboratory efficiency, patient service delivery, and productivity across all locations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory capabilities, patient experience, and reduce operational costs.
  • Assess competition, market opportunities and threats, recommend appropriate plans and implement actions.
  • Collaborate with Business Development for opportunities for increasing services and geographic expansion in B.C.

Operations Management

  • Lead a team of managers to oversee operations activities including workflow optimization, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
  • Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics (systems, processes, procedures, and activities).
  • Manage laboratory information systems (LIS) and ensure data integrity and security across all locations.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor relationships.
  • Implement and maintain laboratory safety programs and emergency response procedures across all facilities.
  • Work with corporate real estate and facilities management teams to oversee facilities management including space planning, environmental controls, and infrastructure needs.
  • Ensure optimal patient flow and scheduling systems to minimize wait times and enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Manage specimen collection protocols and transportation logistics.
  • Manage customer complaints and engage appropriate stakeholders for resolution.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations including local health agency requirements.
  • Oversee quality management systems and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Manage internal and external audits, inspections, and corrective action processes.
  • Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

People / Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership in planning and managing Operations resource requirements to ensure a high level of service and delivery.
  • As a leader, role model and coach, foster an environment of positive employee relations, strong teamwork, and employee engagement.
  • Create an environment of trust and open communication, by sharing information in a timely manner and encouraging multi-directional feedback.
  • Act as a coach to promote career growth opportunities, educational pursuits, and participation in internal development programs.
  • Manage people resources for optimal workforce planning, recruitment, performance goal setting, training, scheduling and efficient workflow.
  • Implement a talent strategy to aligned to talent current and future talent needs, employee development, IDB (inclusion, diversity & belonging), workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Set expectations, counsel, coach and manage employee performance on an on-going basis and in relation to their performance.
  • Develop, implement and monitor employee engagement initiatives in partnership with other leaders and HR to increase team performance and retention.
  • Recognize team and employee achievement.
  • Facilitate effective and collaborative working relationships within the ops team and stakeholders.

Administration

  • Manage budgets, operational plans and department expenses.
  • Lead the department’s annual performance and salary review process.
  • Manage vendors to ensure best value for services or products provided, including sourcing, negotiating, and performance.
  • Utilize reports on performance metrics, incident reports, customer satisfaction surveys to take action that increase productivity and service delivery.

  • Capability to develop and implement 1 to 2 years business plan.
  • Capability to understand the scientific and technical functioning of the Laboratory Operations – BC departments.
  • Capability to develop, implement or improve the Laboratory Operations – BC functions.
  • Strong project governance, financial management and project management skills.
  • Capability to review, develop, implement and monitor organization design at functional level.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and systematic thinking skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
  • Experience in team management and team building, providing proven ability to form, build, and manage effective teams while modeling the behaviors of an effective team player.
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment demonstrating comfort with ambiguity and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to effective lead, manage and participate in cross-functional environment in support of corporate goals and objectives.
