Our client, the Okanagan’s leading Real Estate Developer, is looking for a Director of Health, Safety & Environment to join their growing business.

Director of Health, Safety & Environment Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the health and safety program, including standard operating procedures, best practices, and policies.
  • Champion training initiatives to mitigate risk, optimize workers’ health and safety, and foster a positive health and safety culture.
  • Lead and participate in workplace audits and investigations of safety concerns, incidents, and accidents.
  • Lead a team of safety professionals, including hiring, performance management, mentoring, and career development.
  • Engage with the leadership team and execute on identified safety measures.
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments regularly to identify hazards and implement mitigation measures.
  • Establish relationships with regulatory bodies to stay compliant with evolving safety regulations.
  • Engage stakeholders to ensure the safety program meets standards.
  • Maintain COR status and maximize WorkSafeBC rebates.
  • Partner with IT for safety software requirements and reporting.
  • Provide quarterly safety reports, analyzing data for trends and improvements.
  • Develop workplace safety training initiatives.
  • Stay informed on industry best practices and emerging safety trends.
  • Support safety inspections to ensure equipment and processes are safe.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years in a safety leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in occupational health and safety or related field.
  • Experience in residential or mixed-use construction preferred.
  • CRSP designation or working towards it preferred.
  • Proven leadership and change management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Good computer skills, MS Office, and safety software experience.
  • Organizational, time management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of construction safety protocols.
