Job description

Enterprise Canada is looking for a Director of Government Relations to join our Government Relations practice in Ontario.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work on some of the most complex and high-impact issues facing Ontario today, representing leading companies, non-profits, and associations across a range of sectors. We’re looking for a strategic thinker who is talented, motivated, and ready to take on exciting work that delivers results for our clients.

A strong understanding of how government works is essential. Experience working in government or on political campaigns will be highly valued, along with a keen interest in the political process and a passion for shaping public policy.

Location: Toronto

CoreResponsibilities:

  • Lead government engagement, public affairs, and advocacy strategies for clients in Ontario.
  • Lobby directly on behalf of clients.
  • Execute on key business initiatives and lead client relationships, while managing their needs and expectations.
  • Build relationships with clients at an executive level to develop, foster, and sustain relationships.
  • Lead client teams and provide guidance and mentorship to other team members.
  • Play an active role in Enterprise Canada’s leadership team and annual planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials and decision-makers.
  • Contribute to business development opportunities, including pitches, proposals, and RFP responses.
  • Effectively manage and resolve issues from clients and internal teams.
  • Stay up-to-date on current events, politics, and public policy issues across a range of sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with all lobbying and ethics requirements for public affairs professionals.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in politics, government relations, or public affairs.
  • Deep knowledge of Canada’s political system, government structures, and policy-making processes, especially in Ontario.
  • Strong network within government, private sector, and industry associations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Proven ability to think critically and provide strategic advice to clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute government relations and advocacy strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead client files and oversee key deliverables.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and lead teams effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well versed on current affairs, political actors, and major public policy files in Ontario.
